New more affordable 16GB Kindle Colorsoft sees first price drop down at $220 today, Kids Edition $240

Last fall Amazon introduced us to the very first Kindle with color, and just recently unleashed a new more affordable model alongside the Kids Edition. While the signature version ships with 32GB of storage, the newer release is a more affordable 16GB point of entry and today we are getting the first chance to save on one down at $219.99 shipped. Amazon is now offering its new 16GB Amazon Kindle Colorsoft at $219.99 shipped, down from the regular $250 list price. This is the very first discount at $30 off the going rate to deliver a new Amazon all-time low. It is also lands at $60 under the regular price on the 32GB Signature Edition. 

There are a few differences between the Signature Edition and the new model, but they by and large deliver the same experience otherwise. Alongside the lighter internal storage and more affordable price tag, the newer model also doesn’t include the wireless charging found on the more expensive variant as well as the auto-adjusting front light – it also only comes in one color. 

That said, it still delivers the 7-inch Colorsoft display with “paper-like color that brings covers and content to life” as well as the ability to “highlight your favorite scenes in yellow, orange, blue, and pink” and adjust the display to accomodate light and dark reading conditions. An IPX8 waterproof rating also joins USB-C charging that can keep you powered up for 8 weeks at a time.
