Hollow Knight: Silksong is ‘100% releasing in 2025’ and we will know exactly when very soon

The big summer game showcases came and went, and still no release date or even a proper look at the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong. But gamescom 2025 is here, and so is Silksong. We still didn’t get a proper look or a release date for the bigger-than-indie 2D side-scrolling adventure at the Opening Night Live event yesterday, but industry darling and Game Awards boss Geoff Keighley did specifically say that it is “100%” for sure releasing this year, and we are almost certainly going to get the actual launch date tomorrow morning.

It has been a long, hard road for fans waiting on the Hollow Knight sequel – the game has been in development now for seven years, and had all but entirely refused to surface for all that long since it was made public.

Years of Nintendo Direct and IndieWorld showcases, no Silksong. Summer games showcases from all the major publishers, still no Silksong. The launch of Switch 2, and yet, still no Silksong.

But the wait is finally over.

After loads of false starts and crushed dreams, 2025 is the year and tomorrow is the day we will actually find out more.

This isn’t speculation or anything along those lines, Keighley said it was releasing this year for sure, and developer Team Cherry and scheduled in a “special announcement” for the game on its official YouTube channel.

One would assume that, if it is indeed releasing this year, tomorrow’s announcement will just haaaaave to include the release date. And considering the the developer is taking this announcement to YouTube with its own dedicated stream (or something along those lines), it will be more than just a 1 minute trailer with a date at the end of it.

Don’t get me wrong, I would be more than happy just to get the date direct from the devs at this point, as would millions of other eager gamers, but how nice would it be to get a more lengthy look at the title? Perhaps something along the lines of a shorter dedicated Direct showcase?

Either way, the countdown is on, and I don’t think even Team Cherry has the heart to publicly schedule a special announcement video like this and not give up the goods.

Loads of gamers on the show floor in Cologne have already played the game, and we have heard nothing but great things (other than that it is basically the same old demo some folks have already played), but it’s high time the entire world gets to see more of this cult classic gem turned internet sensation, and soon to quite possibly be the biggest indie game ever released.
