That’s a wrap for the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, but The Pokémon Company did have a series of new announcements and reveals for the closing ceremonies this year. CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara took to the stage with updates on everything from Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG to the upcoming Pokémon Champions and Pokémon Legends: Z-A ahead of its release on Switch and Switch 2 in roughly two months time. 

Pokémon World Championships – New reveals, announcements, and updates

Down below you’ll find all of the major announcements, updates, and reveals from the Pokémon World Championships closing ceremonies. 

Some of the major highlights here were the announcement that the Pokémon Champions is indeed coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems as both a “free-to-start” experience and paid digital version on the future. We also got a good look in the form of a new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s 4-player online battles and a bunch more

Pokémon GO

Eternatus and Eternatus Max Battles have been confirmed for Pokémon GO

Reports have been confirmed. 

The powerful Eternatus makes its Pokémon GO debut!

Pokémon TCG Pocket

Get excited for the ever-fluffy Mega Altaria, the ghastly Mega Gyarados, and Mega Blaziken as they make their Pokémon TCG Pocket debut as powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

Mega Charizard X is returning to the Pokémon TCG—this time as a powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. Watch the video for cool visuals of the Flame Pokémon in battle, in addition to a sneak peek at Mega attack rare Mega Charizard X ex*, Mega Gardevoir ex*, and Mega Lucario ex*. There’s also a teaser for new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex coming to the Pokémon TCG in 2026, including a reveal of the always-adorable Mega Dragonite ex

Pokémon UNITE

Empoleon joins the fray on September 19, and Dhelmise and Vaporeon will join at a later date!

Plus, Groudon will be appearing in the Theia Sky Ruins starting on September 4. Get ready for some intense battles!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The Z-A Battle Club is ready for its newest Link Battle entrants! Up to four players can take part in battles where they attempt to defeat as many of each other’s Pokémon as they can within the time limit.

Pokémon Champions

Pokémon Champions has now been confirmed to be coming to Switch 2 with a “free-to-start” edition of the game and a “paid digital version of Pokémon Champions on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems will be shared in the future. “

On Aug. 28, 2026, the Pokémon World Championships will level up with the addition of an all-new fan experience: PokémonXP. This event will take place alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships competitions at the Moscone Center in the heart of San Francisco, welcoming Trainers from across the world to celebrate their fandom with a variety of unique offerings and engaging activities, with something for every fan.
