Update 8/21: Chibi-Robo is now playable as part of the Switch 2 GameCube library.
Nintendo has now officially announced the next expansion for the Switch 2 GameCube library. The latest classic game library for Nintendo Switch Online members and Switch 2 owners launched alongside the next-gen console with three titles before Nintendo brought the classic Super Mario Strikers in late June, and now it is readying a fifth title.
During the big-time Switch 2 Direct back in April Nintendo officially introduced the world to the new GameCube Switch Online library. While it is, unfortunately, only available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, and only on the Switch 2, it has very much been a welcome addition the next-gen Nintendo experience.
The classic platform launched with The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX on June 5 – the same day as Switch 2 – before Nintendo added 2005’s Super Mario Strikers to the mix in late June. And now it is ready to expand the experience once again.
Chibi-Robo comes on Switch 2 GameCube library next week
The next title Switch 2 GameCube title is Chibi-Robo. This is another one of the games we already knew was coming to the platform from the initial debut trailer, but it has now been confirmed for an August 21 release date:
Say hello to Chibi-Robo!
Join him on his quest to restore order to the Sanderson house and save the world in Chibi-Robo!, coming to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on #NintendoSwitch2 for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack members on Aug 21!
Initially debuted in 2005, the series has appeared on various Nintendo consoles, including DS, 3DS, Wii, and the original GameCube release Nintendo has now brought to its new classic game library.
Check out the announcement trailer below:
Chibi-Robo is a four-inch-tall robot who’s arrived at the Sanderson house with the goal of helping the family get the most out of life and find happiness. Day or night, he’ll help however he can, whether that’s by cleaning or looking for lost items. In this chibi action-adventure title originally released for the Nintendo GameCube™ system in 2006, you’ll aim for the top of the Chibi-Rankings by gathering Happy Points and Moolah (aka money)! It’s rumored that Chibi-Robo will become Super Chibi-Robo if he reaches the top of the rankings…but between a daughter who only speaks in the language of frogs and toys that come alive when humans aren’t around, Chibi-Robo has his work cut out for him in the mystery-packed Sanderson house!
What game will Nintendo add to the GameCube library next?
Well, no one really knows, but if it’s going in the order the titles were shown in the initial trailer starting with Mario Strikers, and considering its on a bi-monthly schedule thus far, it seems an October release of Luigi’s Mansion would be just perfect.
