What will the next Switch 2 GameCube release be? And when do we expect it to arrive? Nintendo just officially announced the August Switch 2 GameCube release with the quirky but largely underrated Chibi-Robo! – it was a game we expected to land in the Switch 2 GameCube library at some point, and we now know it will do so next week. But what’s next?
Nintendo initially announced the Switch Online GameCube library for Switch 2 gamers when it officially detailed the console, alongside the official new wireless GameCube controller release that we have since had a chance to test out ourselves (ahead of its official price increase).
The Switch 2 GameCube library launched with three titles, including a Zelda classic, a 3D fighting game, and a futuristic racer – The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX.
That’s a short and sweet launch lineup if you ask me, but Nintendo has since given players the chance to hit the pitch in 5v5 matches via the classic Super Mario Strikers, and now a chance to join Chibi-Robo! “on his quest to restore order to the Sanderson house and save the world” starting on August 21.
But what’s next for the GameCube library?
Nintendo doesn’t really have all that much of a pattern going when it comes to adding new titles to the Switch Online Classic libraries, but it does, for the most part, add a new title once a month or so. Not always, but usually, and rarely from the same classic platform twice in a row.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX launched in June, but that was delayed with the launch of the console – they were scheduled to debut in May.
Then two months after the initial release date on the launch titles, we got Mario Strikers in late July.
And, now in late August, Nintendo has once again added a new title in Chibi-Robo! after the debut of Mario Paint for the SNES library.
While we could be looking at a once a month type of situation here with the new GameCube library to keep the ball rolling on new content for Nintendo’s new console, the recent series of events and the teaser it gave us in the install release trailer, has us thinking the next launch will land in October for Halloween.
What is the next game coming to the Switch 2 GameCube library?
We certainly don’t know for sure, and Nintendo could sneak another title come September – the recent frequency of events suggests as much anyway, but there is good reason we could see the next title land just in-time for Halloween, and here’s why:

During the initial announcement trailer for the new GameCube Switch library, Nintendo quickly teased some of the upcoming editions – two of which have already landed – as you can see above.
While it clearly could release any of those titles at just about anytime, the order might not be a coincidence – if you start from Super Mario Strikers (the way Nintendo did), the next game is Chibi-Robo!, and that one was just announced. Next after that is the GameCube version of Luigi’s Mansion.
Considering Nintendo’s typical monthly schedule here, and the chance that we could see a different platform get some love in September, it would not be crazy to think Nintendo did show the games off in some kind of order and now plans to debut the perfect Halloween GameCube game just in time for Halloween 2025.
Again, we have no idea here, but it is all starting to lineup nicely, and we hope Luigi’s solo ghost hunting adventure lands in time for All Hollows Eve either way.
