Today, popular dash cam manufacturer VIOFO has launched its newest A229 Ultra 3-Channel Dash Cam that takes a step up from the brand’s usual single and dual setups, though its not the first to offer three vantage points. With cameras to cover your hood, trunk, and cabin, this new system provides heightened quality, safety, and convenience – and it comes in both a standard model and a waterproof model for added peace of mind, if you want it, as well as a 2-channel model for those wanting to save a little extra money. You can head below to get the rundown on what to expect, as well as pricing details.
VIOFO’s new A229 Ultra 3-Channel Dash Cam is now available
VIOFO’s new A229 Ultra dash cam system comes equipped with the latest Sony STARVIS 2 sensors, intelligent features, and ultra-wide viewing angles to give you far more clarity in your video playbacks alongside more peace of mind when on the road or parked and away from your vehicle.
Starting things off with the most obvious change from the majority of its predecessors, VIOFO’s A229 Ultra has been primarily designed as a 3-channel system (despite the 2-channel alternative option). At the heart of it all is Sony’s STARVIS 2 sensors, with a IMX678 (1/1.8″) sensor on the front and rear cameras, while the cabin camera sports a IMX662 (1/2.8″) sensor. This configuration provides dual 4K resolution for the front and rear vantages and full HD for the interior, complete with glare and reflections reduced thanks to the Circular Polarizing Lenses used. It even comes bolstered for clarity at darker hours with Super Night Vision 2.0 and HDR on all three channels.

For the cabin camera, specifically, it’s been designed to provide full interior coverage so nothing goes unnoticed, with an infrared-equipped fisheye camera providing a 210-degree field of view. This makes it quite the handy device for rideshare drivers, parents, and more. You’d normally be hard pressed to find such an ultra-wide angle of vision with cabin cameras, which is great for folks who want to maintain full recorded coverage of their cabins.
While driving, the built-in Quad-Mode GPS system provides pertinent information regarding your journey, while also providing this same data in your playbacks for accuracy. It supports GPS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and GLONASS satellites giving you a variety of options for vehicle tracking, alongside other key details like your speed and time.
Of course, this system is ready to provide you with watchful support once you’ve stepped away from your vehicle, with features that include Auto Event Detection, Time-Lapse Recording (from 1 to 10 fps), Low Bitrate recording, and more. Any time motion is detected by the sensors, you’ll have saved footage of 15 seconds before and up to 30 seconds after, providing you with reliable incident documentation. Whether its recording while parked or while driving, older files will be overwritten to save on space at the same time that immediate incident footage will be automatically locked for later playback.
It’s been given a 5GHz Wi-Fi module for 4x faster video transfers, making downloads and previews that much more seamless to access. The main unit in the system also comes with a USB-C 2.0 port that allows you to directly connect to smartphones, with it able to support up to 20MB/s speeds, as well as lending towards smoother firmware updates and media transfers.
It supports over 16 language settings for wider user-friendliness, one-touch video protection, and even some further customization functions. What’s more, the multi-lingual capabilities extend to the voice controls, letting you go hands-free to start recordings, capture photos, or toggle the Wi-Fi on and off. You’ll even receive audible notifications when there are memory card errors and for setting changes too.

There are the three main choices in setups to choose from with VIOFO’s A229 Ultra Dash Cam, starting with the 2-Channel model that goes for $390 shipped at full price. There’s also the standard 3-Channel model that carries a $430 price tag, with its waterproof counterpart also going for $430 in full. It’s worth noting that the brand will be including a free 256GB VIOFO memory card with purchases through August 8.
