Nintendo has now announced price hikes on Switch hardware in the U.S. After it did as much in other regions, I guess it was only a matter of time before it hit home, and that is today…or August 3, 2025 rather when the prices will officially rise stateside.
While it’s not the bad news you were very much not hoping for, this does not bode well for folks who haven’t purchased a Switch 2 console yet.
At this time, Nintendo has specifically mentioned the following hardware will be subject to the price hike: Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and select Nintendo Switch accessories.
Today’s official press release also mentions “other Nintendo products” like certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, will also see adjustments.”
And while it does also specifically state that pricing on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will “remain unchanged at this time,” it sounds like all of those might be getting an adjustment sooner than later too.
We are not sure if or when this might happen, but Nintendo said “please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future” with regard to Switch 2 hardware and games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online here in the U.S.
Analysts predicted it, albeit much earlier than it is happening in some cases, and I think most folks just expected it at some time, but with today’s official announcement it is really hitting home here today.
Needless to say, it sounds like Switch 2 consoles are likely to see a price increase in the future and if you haven’t landed one yet, now might be the time to do it:
- Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle $499 (Walmart)
- Switch 2 + Pokémon: Legends Z-A $499 (Walmart)
- Switch 2 Console only $450 (Target)
- Switch 2 + Pokémon: Legends Z-A $500 (Target)
- Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle $500 (Best Buy)
- Switch 2 + Pokémon: Legends Z-A $500 (Best Buy)
Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025. These include Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and select Nintendo Switch accessories.
Other Nintendo products, including certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, will also see adjustments.
Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time. However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.
