Nintendo has officially released its latest quarterly earnings report, further highlighting the massive uptick in sales garnered by Switch 2 – the fastest-selling console in U.S. history. YoY earnings for the Mario maker are (mostly) up across the board because of the nearly 6 million Switch units sold in the first quarter and nearly as many copies of its new open-world Mario Kart experience. But none of this comes as much to surprise to just about anyone at this point, and subsequently isn’t all that interesting to anyone but stock holders – Nintendo did however once again confirm the 2025 release date windows for some major upcoming titles.
While digital sales were down YoY, the company stated that Switch 2 sales numbers “exceeded expectations” with close to 6 million units sold alongside Switch 2 software sales tallying up to 8.67 million units – pack-in game Mario Kart World sold 5.63 million units.
Nintendo then goes on to say that titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree also sold quite well and that it plans to maintain momentum over the coming months and into the holiday season with upcoming titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
But clearly the company is going to need more than one Pokémon title to keep the numbers going and, after the recent Direct Partner Showcase came and went without any mentions and a single particularly huge game, release dates and more information on the state of some already known Switch 2 titles are certainly going to factor in here.
Before the recent Nintendo Direct was confirmed to be a third-party Partner Showcase, leaks, rumors, and basic common sense suggested we would indeed be getting the release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the new Kirby Air Riders – the only two major first-party games already confirmed to be on the slate without an actual release date.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – a sort of spin-off prequel to Nintendo’s blockbuster Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – was on display at yesterday’s Partner Show case with a new trailer and was once again confirmed for release “this winter.”
But even before the latest Direct launched as a Partner Showcase, rumors had started to surface of a potential delay on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which led to fear it might slip from the 2025 release date Nintendo has been promising for months. However, while we still don’t have hard release date, Nintendo’s latest financial report that was just released does once again double down on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s 2025 release alongside a small collection of other upcoming titles.
The titles in bold below were those mentioned again in the Nintendo quarterly earnings report. The others already previously announced release dates and some were once again mentioned in the recent Direct – the new Splatoon Raiders does not yet have a release window according to the report:
- Drag X Drive – releases August 14, 2025
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World– releases August 28, 2025
- Star Wars Outlaws – releases September 4, 2025
- Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion – releases September 5, 2025
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A– releases October 16, 2025
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – releases 2025
- Kirby Air Riders – releases 2025
- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – releases this winter
- Splatoon Raiders – TBD
It’s not official confirmation, but it does give hope these two major releases are still inbound this year. The list overall isn’t particularly extensive, but with these titles, a new GameCube Switch Online releases or two, and hopefully the much-anticipated Animal Crossing for Switch 2 teaser at the likely September Direct, Nintendo will be in good shape through holiday 2025.
