This morning’s long-awaited Nintendo Direct has aired, and it certainly was not what just about anyone was expecting. Not only was it a Partner Showcase, we also did not see almost any of the major third-party games that were rumored to be coming to Switch 2 – there were a couple, just not any of the big hitters. One shining light in the otherwise mostly mediocre showing was the new Square Enix RPGs that capped off the show – Octapath Traveler 0 and the all-new IP, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The latter of which now has a FREE demo you can download on Switch 2 to give it a try before launch.
The Octapath Traveler series has cemented itself into the hearts and minds of retro-style RPG fans everywhere already and the new Octapath Traveler 0 very much looks like it will carry the torch, but The Adventures of Elliot was, in some ways, the most surprising reveal of the show for fans of pixelated adventures.
The game his being developed courtesy of the folks beyond the well-received Octapath Traveler and BRAVELY DEFAULT titles, which is more or less entirely obvious judging by the lHD-2D look and feel here, but is set in its own “corner of a continent overrun with beast tribes…the Kingdom of Huther is humanity’s sole bastion, kept safe by a magic barrier.”
Open new paths as you explore an untamed continent and reveal its mysterious history. Navigate battles with strategic support abilities provided by a helpful fairy.

Unlike Octapath Traveler 0 that is set for release on December 4, you can go head over to the eShop right now and download the The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Debut Demo for FREE to give it a try before its launch on Switch 2 in 2026.
The main focus of this debut demo is to showcase the game’s exploration and battle features. Demo content may differ from the retail version of the game.
*Save data from this demo cannot be carried over to the retail version.*This demo includes online functionality in order to analyze how players interact with the game. Analytic data will be collected when connected to the internet.
