Developer hints at upcoming reveal of major new RPG for Switch 2

While it might not be the the next Mario or Zelda game for Switch 2 many of us are eagerly awaiting, nor the new Animal Crossing title that is rumored to be making an appearance in the next Nintendo Direct, it sounds like a new Xenoblade project could very well be on the way for Switch 2.

While there has been no official confirmations just yet, a staffer at Monolith Studios – the devs responsible for the Xenoblade series – is already hinting at the studio’s next game.

If Monolith Studios is hard at work on a new title, it’s probably one for Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s probably something in the Xenoblade series, but we can’t say for sure.

Back in 2022, ahead of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reveal, Monolith composer and seasoned music video game performer Manami Kiyota hinted at a new project underway at the studio.

Just recently Kiyota served up a very similar tease saying she is working on an unannounced project right now “with wonderful creators from around the world. Please look forward to the official announcement!”

That clearly isn’t saying all that much, but it is almost identical to what Kiyota said before XC3 was revealed, leading gamers and fans of the long-running RPG series to think this unannounced project is likely a Monolith one, and perhaps even Xenoblade Chronicles 4.

It could be a remake, it could be a different game altogether, and it might not even be a Switch 2 exclusive, but we are nonetheless intrigued, just like we were last time Kiyota teased a new project.

As pointed out on Reddit, Kiyota has been responsible for music in all of the mainline Xenoblade titles, and if there is a new one in the works for Switch 2, she is likely working on tunes for it right now.

At this point, it might be more likely that a new Switch 2 Xenoblade title is in the works than it appearing in the rumored Direct that was supposed to get announced and go live this week. Both could certainly still happen though – one would think Nintendo has one more day to announce a Direct if it is going to happen in July. We are either way not hopeful the game will be ready for the holiday season this year, and perhaps not even next, it is more likely going to land as one of the big 2026 Switch 2 RPG releases at this point.
