The Pokémon Company has officially announced the next TCG set, and it’s launching on September 26! They are bringing back Mega Evolutions in the best way possible. This marks the start of the new Mega Evolution Series and the return of Mega Evolution Pokémon to the TCG for the first time since the Sun & Moon era. Here is what you need to know.
Megas are back
Pokémon initially teased this during Pokémon Day 2025. They are set to reintroduce Mega Evolutions like Mega Lucario ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, and more. An important note for those who are players of the TCG and not just collectors is that these cards will boast massive HP and high-damage attacks. But if your Mega Evolution Pokémon gets knocked out, your opponent takes three Prize cards.

Another note is that these new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are treated as Basic, Stage 1, or Stage 2 Pokémon. There will be no need for an extra Evolution step. For instance, Mega Lucario ex evolves directly from Riolu, not Lucario.
There’s also a brand-new, ultra-rare art style for these cards. Some will feature the silhouette of the original Pokémon, like a shadowed Lucario behind Mega Lucario. And for the first time, ultra rares are expanding beyond just Pokémon and Supporter cards — now including Item, Stadium, and Pokémon Tool cards. I am personally super excited for this new addition to the ultra rares!
Key highlights
- 10 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
- 22 Illustration Rares
- 22 Ultra Rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Trainer cards
- 10 Special Illustration Rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards

You’ll find this set in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and various collections at all major retailers starting September 26.
While the release date is September 26, there will be some opportunities to get some early access at pre-release events starting September 13. Be sure to check out Pokémon’s local game store locator to visit a participating store for these pre-release events!
What do you think about this? I, for one, am stoked to see these cards in the real world. Be sure to follow along for continued coverage and stay tuned for some coverage on the new Black Bolt and White Flare set to release soon!
