Sony officially announces PS5 summer game showcase: 40-min State of Play goes live tomorrow

The summer gaming showcase season is upon us and one of the last holdouts has officially entered the ring – Sony has now confirmed the next summer State of Play showcase and it goes live tomorrow.

PlayStation summer game showcase – State of Play goes live tomorrow

Microsoft has already announced the big-time summer Xbox showcase – it will once again take that usual Sunday afternoon slot on June 8 – and the massive Summer Game Fest show will go live (likely for hours) starting on the afternoon of June 6. Even IOI has announced a showcase for later that night a 9 p.m. ET featuring the new James Bond 007 game, but we, up until now, were yet to hear from Sony.

It has now, however, taken to its official PlayStation Blog to officially announce the next State of Play – it is set to kick off tomorrow, June 4 at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET.

This, considering Sony is calling it a State of Play, is not likely to be some kind of massive summer showcase like we have seen in years past, although it is hard to say at this point – it will run for a lengthy 40 minutes and perhaps Sony has just decided to move away from the showcase naming scheme?

Sony says you can “watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5. The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe.”

As per usual, Sony is being tight-lipped about what will actually be shown off tomorrow, but you can expect 40 straight minutes of new games and updates, and we will be here to cover it all with you.
