Before you too riled up, not all orders are being cancelled here. The one week countdown to the release of Nintendo Switch 2 is officially on. After years of waiting, and a countless number of rumors and leaks, the Switch 2 release is finally upon us and, while we would have liked to start our countdown off on a happy note, we thought it more pertinent to launch this PSA – loads of folks who thought they secured a Switch 2 pre-order last month are starting to see pre-orders getting cancelled.
Before you even finish reading this post, you might want to go check up on your order. Login and make sure, wherever you ended up pre-ordering, that it has not been cancelled on you. While it appears as though retailers are sending out cancellation emails, this is not one electronic message you want to take the chance of missing.
And just to be clear, we are not just talking about folks who thought they placed their orders on April 24th when he pre-sale started and got orders cancelled the day of or shortly thereafter. What started out as a few one-off folks online claiming orders got cancelled last week has snowballed into an inordinate number of disappointed gamers claiming Switch 2 pre-orders were canceled this week alone.
At a glance it seems as though a number of the orders getting nixed were placed at Walmart – one of only a small handful of sources that actually carried pre-orders last month, although it is impossible to say for sure at this point.
The reason for this is still unclear. Did Walmart’s online ordering system just take orders it couldn’t ultimately fulfill? Sounds like it.
But there is some speculation surrounding the actual payment methods used here. Some have suggested Walmart’s “pay later” service Affirm is at fault – the service’s agreement only support a 30 day loan agreement, which is perhaps voiding pre-orders that took place more than as many days before the product shipped and the customer would be “charged.”
Sad news for sure, as this option allows folks that might not have had the funds on the April 24 start date to secure a console anyway.
But again, it is still unclear whether or not this is the only scenario with which orders are being cancelled. We have not had any orders made using typical credit card checkout cancelled as of yet here at gadgetnewsonline, but I guess anything could happen at this point…finger’s crossed.
