PlayStation has now officially announced the next State of Play and this time it’s going to be all about the new Borderlands 4. Right after theGearbox CEO Randy Pitchford “leaked” a new sooner release for the game and all but confirmed there was an upcoming spring State of Play inbound, Sony has now taken to PlayStation Blog to make it official.
Randy Pitchford “accidentally” shared a video on X that revealed the new release date for Borderlands 4 before it was promptly taken down. Knowing these folks it’s hard to say how accidental it actually was, but Pitchford did say there was some kind of mix up with the time zones. Either way, we know Borderlands 4 is coming out 11 days earlier than was originally planned on September 12, 2025.
The official Borderlands 4 X account has since confirmed the new release date:
Break Free in Borderlands 4 on Sep. 12, 2025

Fast forward to just after all of that, and Sony has published an official announcement post on the PlayStation Blog confirming the new release date and a dedicated Borderlands 4 State of Play scheduled to go live tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET. We will, of course, be watching along with you then.
After confirming the new game would indeed be landing on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, Gearbox is ready to host a complete blow out of the gameplay ahead of release – “in this upcoming State of Play, strap in with me and Anthony Nicholson, Senior Project Producer, for over 20 minutes of developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more. “
Borderlands 4 was initially revealed back in the summer last year as the next entry in the long-running series. It was initially slated to release on September 23 of this year, but all of that changes today. There doesn’t seem to be any hard data on whether or not it will land on all platforms on the same day, but it sure looks like it at this point.
