Sony has now announced an official price increase on PlayStation 5 in Europe and elsewhere. While the U.S. remains safe (for now anyway), the value on that new Astro Bot bundle is looking better and better everyday.
While the official price increase isn’t taking hold here in the U.S. (Sony has increased the listings on its PS5 consoles internationally before without the price hike hitting the U.S.), with sweeping Trump tariffs looming and the general uncertainty across the gaming industry it’s hard to say if this will remain the case for good.
Here’s what Sony had to say about the price jump:
With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.

Here are the details from Sony on the international PlayStation price increases – the PS5 Pro MSRP will remain the same and the “Disc Drive for PS5 will be getting an RRP decrease effective starting April 14.”
Again, there’s no way to know if the PS5 price hikes will hit the U.S. market or not, as it has managed to side-step them previously, but with the Trump gang back at the helm, it seems as though anything could happen at this point. They even managed to halt the pre-sale of Switch 2 – gaming’s biggest launch in years and what many previously predicted could be the biggest launch in gaming ever.
