Late last summer Twelve South unleashed a new updated, and more affordable version of its Butterfly travel charger. The SE version features the same fold-out 2-in-1 wireless charging setup, but with 15W Qi2 power on the main MagSafe pad and we happen to be tracking the lowest prices to date. This is a regularly $100 charger and you can once again score the black model on Amazon matching the lowest we have tracked to date at $50.99 shipped while a new Woot Bestest of Tech sale is now ushering in the best price ever on the white model at $49.99 Prime shipped (a $6 delivery fee will apply otherwise). 

You’re looking at a straight up 50% price drop on the white model and a return of the best price to date on the black variant. The white model is on sale for $80 at Amazon – this is the lowest price of the year on Amazon and within $10 of its best ever. Needless to say, there’s some serious savings to be had here today. 

While the SE version is technically the sort of lite version of the Butterfly, that doesn’t really do it justice. The standard and much older version is essentially the same just with an all-metal finish on the outside. I, for one, typically appreciate the higher-end finishes on my tech accessories, but not in this case. These sorts of travel chargers often find temporary homes on beside tablets in hotels and the like and the rubberized finish on the SE model is much better suited for this task if you ask me – the metal model can tend to slide around when you’re taking your gear on and off of it on the tablet top, whereas the rubberized model is far more stable in my experience. 

Beyond that though, they are mostly the same. A single USB-C connection delivers power to both sides of the compact charging unit, providing the main 15W MagSafe pad for iPhone on one side and a pop-up Apple Watch charger on the other – it can also be used to juice up latest-generation AirPods cases too.
