Nintendo might not have served up the price and pre-order date as part of the Switch 2 Direct, but do now have the official details. Switch 2 will launch on June 5 after pre-orders go live next week on April 9 with pricing kicking off at $450, and Best Buy has now announced some official details on its Switch preorder and launch plans you’ll want to be aware of.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorder details
The My Nintendo Store will of course of units up for grabs next week as well, but there’s a serious runaround and a bevy or requirements you’ll need to meet to even be eligible to score one. Best Buy on the other hand sounds like it’s going to be a first come, first served type of situation that will kick off on the same day. We are of course also expecting to see preorders live at Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
As part of an official press release on its corporate site, Best Buy is serving up some details on what it calls Nintendo’s most “anticipated and impressive console to date.”
The Switch 2 preorders at Best Buy will kick off on the same day, April 9 “via the Best Buy Mobile App and the official Best Buy site – it also mentions that “stores will have pre-orders for games and accessories” as well. It, unfortunately, did mention a precise time as to when pre-orders will go live next Wednesday.

My Nintendo Store preorder options
Now, let’s tackle the My Nintendo Store preorder options. This is very much a possibility for gamers as well, just don’t expect to get the midnight pickup option like at Best Buy, and there are a number of requirements that must be met before you can essentially register for a preorder ahead of April 9.
You’ll need to sign in with your Nintendo account (and be over 18 years of age) before choosing which of the two console bundles you want to buy. You’ll also have to have purchased Nintendo Switch Online for at least one year and recorded over 50 hours of gameplay on Switch 1 as of today. On top of that, you also had to have opted to share gameplay data with Nintendo from within he privacy section of your Nintendo account.
That’s a serious runaround if you ask me, but honestly most even mildly hardcore Nintendo fans will likely meet these requirements anyway, and it does sound like a good way for Nintendo to at least attempt to circumvent some of the scalpers.
Sign in with your Nintendo Account and register your interest in purchasing a Nintendo Switch™ 2 system and select accessories from the official My Nintendo Store. We’ll be in touch with an invitation email once it’s your turn to shop.
Open to Nintendo Account holders in the U.S. and Canada, who are at least 18 years old. If you are eligible, an invitation email will be sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account when it is your time to purchase. The invitation will be valid for 72 hours. Invitation emails will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025. Once invitation emails have been sent to all registrants meeting the priority criteria, invitations will be sent to remaining eligible registrants on a first-come, first-served basis.
Invitations are non-transferable and will be sent to the email address associated with the Nintendo Account that registered interest in purchasing Nintendo Switch 2. Optional accessories will be available to purchase alongside your system. For system and each accessory, limit one purchase per eligible Nintendo Account during the invitation period.
