Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: Releases June 5, Mario Kart World revealed, new 3D Donkey Kong, much more

Update: Nintendo has officially announced $450 price for Switch 2, $500 Mario Kart bundle, and pre-orders start next week!

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct goes live today. After months of questions and speculation, Nintendo will take the virtual stage this morning to fully reveal the Nintendo Switch 2. After a first-look official trailer finally ended years of waiting back in January, Nintendo is set to host a lengthy Direct event this morning on Switch 2 and it’s all set to go live in just a few hours time now.

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct goes live this morning

After years of rumors and speculation, leaked details, and insider sources claiming it was coming, Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 back in January. The exciting, albeit brief, first Switch 2 trailer was more than just a teaser, but it in many ways just ignited more questions than answers, leaving us with not much more than a brief look at the new console, its Joy-Con, and what appeared to be a glimpse of what was likely the new Mario Kart game.

Sure, it did also divulge some details on backwards compatibility, teased what looked a lot like Mouse-Con mode, and gave us a decent look at how Switch 1 compares to Switch 2, but it also set the internet ablaze with arguably more questions and rumors than before it made an official appearance.

Another important piece of information Nintendo confirmed at the time was that it would host a very special Nintendo Direct showcase specifically dedicated to Nintendo Switch 2, and that day has finally arrived.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will go live at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET today to deliver a full-on look at the new console, and hopefully some launch games alongside the Switch 2 pre-order date as well as the official release date.

Nintendo has confirmed today’s Direct showcase will be a lengthy one, delivering approximately 60-minutes of new details and updates on Switch 2 and (probably) some exclusive Switch 2 games too.

The show will go live below shortly and we will be following along with you every step of the way!

Join us on April 2nd at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET for a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2! The Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025 livestream will be approximately 60 minutes long.

The fun doesn’t end after today’s Direct showcase wraps up either – keep in mind I’m writing this before we know for sure whether or not Switch 2 pre-orders will go live today – as Nintendo has now confirmed a pair of official Nintendo Treehouse livestream events set to kick on tomorrow, April 3 and the following day, April 4.

Nintendo said these events will specifically be showcasing hands-on looks at Switch 2 games and, based on entries in the official calendar within the new Nintendo Today! app, will run for 4 hours straight on April 3 and then for another 3 hours on April 4.

This sounds a lot like we will be getting some brief trailer-like looks at actual games during today’s Direct with more complete and, perhaps uncut, footage of select titles the following days during the Treehouse streams. The question is whether or not the games on display will be Switch 2 exclusives or titles that we already know about, and that are expected to launch on both Switch 1 and Switch 2, like the new Metroid game.
