Internal documents from major US retailer purportedly just leaked official Switch 2 release date, pre-order date, exclusive collectible, and more

Nintendo Switch 2 Mouse Joy-Con

Just after Best Buy Canada specifically posted an official announcement that Switch 2 pre-orders would start on April 2 – the same day as the Switch 2 Direct, a new report has surfaced saying that might not be the case. Details below.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders date

Details and rumors had already begun surfacing yesterday that the Best Buy leak was made in error, and not just accidentally dropping the pre-order date early, but rather citing the wrong date altogether, and today’s report seems to corroborate as much.

As part of internal documents and emails sourced from a “large US retailer” that were provided to Insider Gaming, it sounds like there’s a chance yesterday’s Best Buy leak might indeed have thew wrong date.

While there’s nothing confirmed at this point – it’s hard to tell whether Best Buy had it right or not, it seems as though pre-orders will be going up a week after the Nintendo Direct.

These internal documents and emails specifically say that Switch 2 will release in June and pre-orders will actually begin on April 9, 2025, instead of April 2. Today’s report also goes on to say that this retailer expects to “sell out of the Switch 2 on the same day they open up the pre-orders due to limited unit allocation from Nintendo” – this is not good news, depending on just how “large” of a retailer this might be.

If these documents are indeed true, Nintendo will indeed be announcing the preorder date on April 2, as expected.

Either way, both dates seemed like worthy candidates for us – put them up the second the Direct finishes on April 2 or give folks a week to prepare for it.

Furthermore, and it’s hard to say whether or not this part is retailer-specific, but pre-orders of Nintendo Switch will also include an “exclusive collectible coin” of some kind.
