All-new Nintendo Today! app now live on iOS and Android, reveals the rumored Switch 2 “C” button

Nintendo Today! app

It has been a busy day in Nintendo Switch news – Best Buy might have leaked the pre-order date this morning and we just got whole slew of updates on new games courtesy of this morning’s Nintendo Direct presentation. As part of this morning’s showcase, Nintendo unveiled the new Virtual Game Cards as well as an all-new Android and iOS app known as Nintendo Today! Alongside daily updates on all things Nintendo sent directly to your smartphone, it also just revealed the mysterious “C” button. Head below for more details.

New Nintendo Today! app now live on iOS and Android

As part of today’s Nintendo Direct the iconic, world-famous, and beloved Shigeru Miyamoto took the virtual stage to thank gamers for making its Direct presentations such a big deal and to confirm that Nintendo will continue to hose these live stream events into the future. But Miyamoto also introduced the new Nintendo Today!  app for iOS and Android – it is now available on the App Store and Google Play

It is essentially a news hub for all things Nintendo, and soon (as in after next week’s Direct) Nintendo Switch 2 – Miyamoto said there will be daily content regarding Switch 2 starting after the April 2 reveal of the next-gen console.

Here’s what the Nintendo Today! app is all about in Nintendo’s words:

A brand-new app that delivers Nintendo content to your smart devices. This smart-device app is like a daily calendar which delivers a variety of content including latest news, videos, and comics of your favorite Nintendo games and characters from select franchises. After the Nintendo Direct presentation about Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, you’ll also find information about the Nintendo Switch 2 system directly on the app. Anyone with a Nintendo Account and compatible smart device can use the free app. Available to download from the App Store and Google Play starting later today.

Users’ favorite Nintendo characters appear each day in a brief animation showing what day it is. The user can choose to set up the app calendar with one of five game series: Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pikmin.

While Miyamoto seemingly promised there would be no new Switch 2 information until  after next week’s show, the app has yielded a very interesting render of the new console:

You see it? look closer…the mysterious button on the right Joy-Con that was previously unmarked does now feature the rumored “C” marking that leaked across the internet quite some time ago.

What does this mean? Well it’s hard to say for sure, but we do know that previously unmarked button is very much the “C” button, which could lend credence to any number of rumors, leaks, and ideas folks have had regarding what this button might be for.

Does it enable mouse mode (cursor)? Does the “C” stand for casting to beam portable Switch 2 console content to the big screen? Or is the rumored “Chat” function? Or does it stand for capture to grab screens and video perhaps?

It is still unclear at this point but you can explore the various rumors and ideas that have been floating around on the “C” button in more details below.
