‘Reliable’ source claims to have been told the Switch 2 release date, details on some new launch games – Elden Ring, and more

Elden Ring?
How much will Nintendo Switch 2 cost?

Just when it started to feel like the Switch 2 launch leaks were starting to slow down in favor of well-respected industry analysis and the like, a reliable leaker claims to have been told when to expect the Switch 2 launch while also providing some insight on potential third-party launch titles we haven’t heard about just yet otherwise.

Most industry analysts and folks close to Nintendo seem to have all been suggesting something in and around June for the Switch 2 release date. Citing Nintendo’s desire to have Switch 2 on kids’ minds as they head out of the school year and into summer 2025, most sources have the release date some time in early summer/late June.

There are plenty of internet sleuths out there targeting a May 15 release date – it rests in-between the hands-on events Nintendo is running, sits roughly one month after the April Direct showcase, and avoids missing out on some sales because of summer vacations. But it does feel like the more credible leakers and industry insiders, as well as a former Nintendo sales employee seem to be looking at a June launch at this point.

The latest of these leakers, eXtas1s, has recently published a video corroborating the June Switch 2 release date (via Tom’s Guide). eXtas1s has a relatively reliable track record when it comes to revealing game news in general.

eXtas1s says they have been told “the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently planned for release at the end of June,” continuing by saying, “I don’t have an exact date, but that’s the current target” – “it will be officially revealed in early April, with a release set for late June.”

The former Nintendo sales strategist, known as Sean online, said Nintendo is targeting a mid-June release date so the console is ready to go before all of the kids are out of school.

Analysts close to Nintendo confirm $399 Switch 2 price expectations, June release, 6+ million units ready on launch day

Obvious none of this confirms anything, and we have heard murmurings of a mid-May release date, but evidence and leaker data seems to be heavily stacking up for June at this point.

We have already detailed some retailer leaks and additional information on the actual games we will be playing – launch titles, release window games, and year-1 titles, but eXtas1s also has some thoughts on this too.

They said “I can say that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is expected to be one of the very first Bandai Namco games to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch,” going on to say that they have been told that Elden Ring and Tekken 8 will be coming to the Switch 2 as well.

There were no specifics on these Bandai titles being launch games per se, just that they are slated for a Switch 2 release at some point, and potentially this year.

Elden Ring – FromSoftware’s masterpiece Soulsborne adventure – isn’t the first AAA title typically associated with PlayStation and Xbox we have heard is on the way to Switch 2 either – Call of Duty, Starfield, and Metal Gear Solid Delta are just a few of the others. It does however once again bring up questions on how powerful Switch 2 actually is, and whether or not it is going to be able to run these titles with a fidelity that can keep up (at least to some degree) with the other guys. Many have suggested Switch 2’s power is equivalent to something like a PS4 Pro, but we have also heard rumors that Nintendo is leveraging AI upscaling tech, something akin to NVIDIA’s tech or Sony’s PSSR, to up-res everything on the console (potentially even older Switch games).

Either way the clock is ticking now, and it appears Switch 2 will be out in the wild at the latest in early summer 2025, if not sooner.
