February feels like it’s taking forever and March might be even worse as Mario Day 2025 will likely just be a reminder of how much longer we will have to wait for Nintendo Switch 2 to actually launch. But we will all just need to be patient at this point, as the scheduled Switch 2 Direct presentation is landing on April 2 and just about everyone presumes pre-orders will go live shortly after that. But when is Switch 2 going to actually release Nintendo? And how much is it going to cost? We need to know and we need to know soon. While these question will likely get answered in early April, a former Nintendo sales strategist has made some public predictions that might end up being the most accurate information we have seen yet.
Previous rumors and leaks had pre-orders going live shortly after the April Direct, with a likely release date within a few month’s time after that at somewhere between $400 and $450.
That said, a former Nintendo sales strategist has gone public with what he thinks is the most likely timeline and MSRP – he also claims that retailers, like Walmart, Target, and Costco almost certainly have no idea what the price will be at this point.
In a conversation on the Kit and Krista podcast via GamesRadar, a former Nintendo employee simply going by the name Sean put some experienced guesses out there on the matter.
Sean seems to think Nintendo is definitely going to want to get Switch 2 on store shelves this summer, and likely within the first two months. Targeting the hype carried from the school year into summer 2025, the former Nintendo sales rep thinks Nintendo will release Switch 2 “at the start of the summer…end of school year, so you’ve got the kids in school talking about what they’re excited for.” He then added that this would give retailers time to sell some bundles during the 2025 holiday season as well…it might even give Nintendo more time to get more units out in the wild, but that might also be a stretch.
That would be the Nintendo Switch 2 release date in mid-June and potentially early July. Sean said that if these dates go by without a launch, something has likely gone wrong with development/manufacturing or otherwise.
But what does Sean think about pricing? Well the ex-Nintendo sales team member says he thinks there’s basically no chance it’s more than $450 and perhaps more likely closer to $400. That would lineup with just about every other leak, rumor, and industry insider analysis we have scoped out thus far. The $400 range seems a sweet spot to me, and considering Sean highly doubts the console will have an OLED display, also seems a fair one. Sean did quickly add that he’s sure it will have an NVIDIA chip inside.
Obviously this is just one person’s opinion, but does happen to be one person that has been on the inside for previous Nintendo launches and could quite possibly be the most accurate guess we have seen thus far. There’s still more than a few months to go if he’s right and April can’t come fast enough at this point.
