From now through Monday, February 17, we have secured gadgetnewsonline readers a rare exclusive deal on the Positive Grid RIFF portable USB recording interface. While it can be used for recording just about everything, this unit is geared towards guitar players, delivering the usual interface duties while also featuring loads of guitar sounds, built-in pre-amps, and overdrive settings for use on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Windows. It regularly fetches $109, much like it is right now at Amazon, but using our exclusive gadgetnewsonline50 code over on the official Positive Grid site will drop your total down to just $59 shipped. That’s roughly 46% off the going rate and one of the lowest prices we have ever tracked.
We have seen this unit drop down to $69 a few times on the brand’s official Amazon storefront, but even that is a relatively rare occurrence.
Just about any USB-C interface out there will allow you to connect your electric guitar or bass into your Mac (or any other recording software on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Windows), but the RIFF has more than a few things going for it on top of today’s giant discount.
After getting a chance to go hands-on with this unit back when it released, a came away quite impressed with the deeply creative elements of the system – this is more than just a typical USB-C interface that happens to be built like a metal tank.
Positive Grid is perhaps best known for its intelligent guitar amp products from the Spark lineup – here’s our reviews for the Spark MINI smart guitar amp, the even more compact Positive Grid Spark GO model, and the brand’s awesome Spark LINK wireless guitar system. And much of the tech that really drives the experience on the Spark amps comes into play on the RIFF as well:
- Interface with pristine sound designed by guitarists
- 24-bit/96kHz High Resolution Audio
- Backlit LCD display
- Automatically adjust input levels
- Three legendary Preamp emulations
- Play songs and jam with chords
- Get 50,000+ tones
- Ready for Mac, iOS, and Windows
On top of the usual recording action, it comes with a copy of BIAS FX 2 Lite Edition, which brings 24 presets, 15 amps, 22 FX, and more to your digital guitar rig. Here’s an except from our review for more details:
But RIFF, like its smart amp brethren, is much more valuable and feature-rich than that when you factor in the included BIAS FX2 software, never mind the upgraded versions thereof. It can be used as a native app or as a plug-in inside your DAW of choice as well. These guitar FX and amps sound just as good or better than the other options I have tried on the market, and easily rival Apple’s built-in Amp Designer and Pedalboard plug-ins for Logic Pro. There are loads of presets to play with and customize (depending on which version you opt for of course, but the freebie starter set can be quite extensive when you include all of the customization options).
Positive Grid RIFF USB Audio Guitar Interface features:
- Best-in-class USB guitar interface with pristine audio converters perfect for electric guitar, acoustic or bass
- Pairs perfectly with any DAW or guitar software to record demos, capture ideas or simply jam
- 3 legendary preamp and overdrive settings built right in
- Turn on Auto Gain to automatically adjust input levels for optimum sound
- Extra large, vivid and crisp LED backlit display
- Rugged metal body made of anodized aluminum to withstand the road ahead
- Ready to use for iOS, iPadOS, macOS or Windows
