gadgetnewsonline’ Take
We have already reviewed SANDMARC’s metal bracelet-style Apple Watch bands in the past, but it recently released a new, ultra-premium high-end model made of the same grade titanium as the flagship Ultra 2 itself, and we wanted to touch down again today to discuss.
Back when we first went hands-on with its timeless titanium Apple Watch strap we took a look at the Grade 2 and Grade 4 models – the main difference here coming in the form of scratch-resistance and overall durability. Today we are looking at the new Grade 5 model, the brand’s most high-end and premium solution to date.
Overall, first and foremost, and quite possibly needless to say at this point, this is an absolutely gorgeous metal Ultra 2 band. It is in fact, hands-down the absolute nicest one I have ever wrapped around my wrist.
Delivering on that timeless bracelet-style design the luxury horology houses have been producing for years, this is a band that could easily affix a $20,000 or $50,000 or more timepiece to your wrist. It would not be entirely out of place attached to an Omega Speedmaster or a Rolex Submariner. Now for some Apple Watch users none of that means anything, there’s no connection or affinity for these sorts of brands and the products they have graced us with for many decades – this Grade 5 SANDMARC band is likely not for you. But if those names and the pedigree that come along with them do, it might just be.
One might argue that folks with a penchant for luxury mechanical watches don’t care about Apple Watch, or the bands that connect to it, and that might very be true, but I do. As someone who has spent countless hours window shopping and trying on luxury timepieces, most of which I can’t afford or would be willing to drop my credit card down for, I both deeply appreciate the heritage luxury watch world and Apple’s smart wearables alike.
After 23 months of research, testing, and refinement, we are excited to introduce our aerospace-grade DLC coated Titanium band, featuring a re-engineered adjustment mechanism for a quicker and more seamless experience getting your band fitted.
It still features the gorgeous, almost invisible double button clasp on the underside of your wrist, and this time around there’s a much more simple screw-based setup to remove links and get the right fit – no more messing around with that vice grip-style pin remover tool these bands used to ship with. I am a big fan of this SANDMARC.
The question remains, are you willing spend nearly as much on an Apple Watch Ultra 2 band as you are for your Tudor or Omega? That’s another question entirely.
All things considered, you could buy an Apple Watch Series 10 for the price of this SANDMARC band – this is only for folks with a special connection to premium craftsmanship, folks with cash to burn, and basically no one else if you ask me.
But I re-iterate, if you are in either of these categories, the SANDMARC Grade 5 Titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2 band is best-in-class, an absolute triumph that elevates Ultra 2 well beyond the heights of any other metal band I have ever wrapped around by wrist.
