Xbox games are coming to Switch 2: Phil Spencer praises upcoming Nintendo console in new interview, more

Xbox games on Nintendo switch 2

We have already detailed some hints floating around on the Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles, but it looks as though we could also be seeing a major influx of Xbox games as well as titles from Ubisoft and Konami too. Not only does it appear as though multi-platform games – that might have previously skipped the Switch in favor of the more powerful platforms – will be landing on Switch 2, but Xbox’s Phil Spencer was recently caught teasing Microsoft’s plans to release what sounds like more than just a few Xbox games on Switch 2.

We can almost guarantee ourselves that Mario Kart 9, some kind of 3D Mario, and perhaps even a major classic Zelda remake will drop into the launch title window for the new Switch. But what about Xbox games on Switch 2?

Phil Spencer recently made an appearance on the Gamertag Radio podcast with some interesting hints at Microsoft’s plans for Switch 2 while also mentioning his praise for the team at Nintendo.

Spencer said Microsoft is very much “looking forward” to supporting Nintendo Switch 2 with what sounds like a host of first-party Xbox games.

He went on to say to say the Switch was a “massive success” and that he thinks the “Switch 2 will be as well,” while also adding that he is “really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have. I just think they’re such an important part of this industry.”

“I want everybody to be able to play on Xbox and it does mean more of our games shipping on more platforms, not just PlayStation,” Spencer said, adding that Xbox loves the work they already do with Nintendo and other platforms and that it will “continue to do more of it.”

How much bigger will Nintendo Switch 2 actually be? Here are some size comparisons to give you an idea

Microsoft has already brought some of its games to still current-generation Switch, including Minecraft and smaller titles like Grounded from Obsidian, but it very much sounds like there will be a much stronger push when the new Switch releases – Microsoft has already been quite aggressive with its attempts at making anything an Xbox and bringing its titles to even more platforms. This, in combination with the fact that Switch 2 is presumably (hopefully) far more powerful than its predecessor, could mean we see a whole lot more Xbox on Switch 2.

Spencer’s recent nod to Switch 2 also lines up nicely with the rumors and details we have seen from other sources and outlets as well – Windows Central has also reported that just about all Xbox games will be coming to Switch 2, providing the system can run them properly. This report comes on the heels of other sources suggesting the Halo: Mater Chief Collection of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 would be among the Xbox games coming to Switch 2.

And as we alluded to above and in our breakdown of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch games, other major publishers are getting onboard as well. While this is only to be expected, some of the titles getting thrown around as potential Switch 2 ports also hint at a much more wide-ranging library of third-party games and more powerful internals on the new Nintendo console.

Switch 2 launch games: Official retail listing mentions new 3D Mario game, Zelda remake, Pokemon, Metroid, more

Reports suggest that Square Enix is readying a port of the Final Fantasy 7 remake for Switch 2 in 2025, for example, while Konami has slated the new Metal Gear Solid Delta for Nintendo’s latest as well. Ubisoft, as we have previously reported, also sounds like it’s going to be getting in on the action in major way as well – we hav already seen a collection of older Assassin’s Creed games land on Switch, but it sounds like newer releases, like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be on the docket as well. As of right now Shadows is officially coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and PC this year, but it might see a Switch 2 release thereafter, beyond the launch window.

While there’s nothing particularly new about seeing third-party publishers typically aligned with he PlayStation and Xbox side things doing everything they can to support Nintendo’s wildly popular gaming hardware, the console’s horsepower also seems to be the major bottleneck. Microsoft and its Xbox Studios were indeed already trying to get their games up on just about every platform, but it sounds like Switch 2 might actually have enough juice to support a much larger collection of AAA titles this generation. How well Switch 2 can actually run Xbox games and the like remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like Spencer either just has high hopes, or (more likely) has inside knowledge of what sorts of specs Switch 2 will ship with later this year.
