Shure debuts the ‘world’s first’ dynamic mic with a dual XLR and 1/4-inch input at CES 2025

MV7i

Shure microphones have been a staple in professional audio recording for many years and it has subsequently taken over a large portion of the online podcasting space with its wonderful XLR and USB offerings. At CES this year, the brand is unleashing a new iteration of its latest MV7+ podcasting mic with what it calls the “world’s first microphone with built-in audio interface” – it’s not, but it’s the first of its kind…read on to see what I mean.

New Shure MV7i – ‘world’s first’ dynamic mic with a dual XLR and 1/4-inch input

Shure says the new MV7i is a smart microphone and audio interface in one, enabling two-channel recording for content creators.

While, in many ways, all USB microphones are interfaces in and of themselves – they capture audio and convert it to digital for your computer or recording medium, the Shure MV7i takes it up a notch. Featuring “world-first and patented technology,” it “sets a new standard of versatility and ease-of-use for podcasters, musicians, and streamers who require two channels of recording.”

It provides the same “unmatched audio quality as the award-winning MV7+” but with an additional XLR input, allowing users to record through the mic itself traditionally while also connecting a second XLR mix, instrument, or otherwise and then convert both signals to digital for recording/streaming.

The built-in interface lets users seamlessly connect a second microphone or instrument directly into the MV7i, and then control both channels of audio either in the MOTIV apps through a computer or phone or with any Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and app.

The mic itself is inspired by the latest version of the brand’s legendary SM7, featuring a metal chassis and a built-in combo XLR and 1/4-inch input, “enabling users to connect a second microphone or instrument with 60dB gain and 48V phantom power” and then send both signals down the USB-C cable to your computer (or phone or whatever you’re using).

Its USB-C output ensures broad compatibility with Mac, Windows, and select mobile devices, and is MFi certified for iPhone and iPad use.

There’s even a color-customizable LED touch panel, not unlike the MV7+, that “provides intuitive mute control and a dual-channel LED display for quick, at-a-glance access.”

Additional features at a glance:

  • Auto Level Mode with SmartGate Technology: Automatically calibrates gain based on proximity, volume, and room dynamics. SmartGate works with Auto Level Mode to dynamically reduce the volume of a channel when either of the two users falls silent, minimising crosstalk and guaranteeing that concurrent conversations do not disrupt the separate audio streams.
  • Real-Time Denoiser: Actively reduces ambient noise, ideal for podcasting and at-home recording.
  • Digital Popper Stopper: Removes harsh plosive sounds, ensuring clear audio without a physical pop screen.
  • Adjustable Reverb: Select from three reverb types with customizable intensity, perfect for versatile recording environments.

The new Shure MV7i Smart Microphone and Interface is available now with a $349 MSRP.
