Audio-Technica unveils new magnetic earbuds with 65-hour battery life at CES 2025

Audio-Technica magnetic earbuds

It is becoming increasingly difficult to standout in the wireless earbuds space, I mean they are just earbuds after all. We’ve seen models with touchscreen displays on the cases, audio retransmission, and even some impressive hearing test and silent gesture tech from Apple, so what’s left? Well perhaps not much but the new Audio-Technica buds being unleashed at CES to have particularly impressive battery life and a sweet magnetic auto shut-off feature too. Check them out below.

Audio-Technica is not usually the brand most folks think when it comes to buds – Apple, Bose, Samsung, Google, JBL…it’s a tough space to standout in. But it is a proper audio brand, and I have come away impressed with previous iterations of the not so thoughtfully named ATH-CKS50TW2 debuting at CES – the models I have in my office sound brilliant and give all of the major players a run for their money.

The original ATH-CKS50TW were a flagship set of buds Audio-Technica says it spent 10 years dialing in. The new CKS50TW2 take all of that work – SOLID BASS tech, isolating fit, and “advanced acoustic technology” – and take things even further. “We have now refined this popular model so that music lovers can enjoy even greater convenience and comfort.”

The first standout feature on the new set is the battery life. There are models out there with longer battery, but not many, and usually not from the brands that can deliver this sort of audio quality.

The ATH-CKS50TW2 is a next-generation heavy bass model with a best-in-class long-lasting battery that provides up to 25 hours of continuous use on a full charge with up to 40 more hours available from the charging case. Our goal with this series has always been to respect the relationship between heavy bass and comfort. This is accomplished by employing hybrid noise-cancelling technology that creates your own personal space in an instant, so you can enjoy an unprecedented sense of immersion wherever you are.

The ATH-CKS50TW2 features up to 25 hours of continuous use on a full charge with up to 40 more hours available from the charging case – that 65 hours without ANC engaged or 35 hours total with noise cancellation running.

With battery life like that, you don’t even need to bring the charging case with you all the time and that’s where the new Magnetic Switch (PAT.P*) technology comes into play. Typically you would need the case to turn the buds off, but with this unique feature you can magnetically attach the buds to one another to do so, and then separate them again to turn them back on. Pretty cool.

The new Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 buds come in three colorways and carry a $149 list price. They might still be a touch sell for some folks over the Bose and Apple options out there, but in my experience they sound just as good and there some interesting features at play here.
