We have featured a number of interesting AirTag accessories over the year, many of which from Elevation Lab, but I’m not sure we have seen anything quite like this one. The Elevation Lab TimeCapsule is just that, an ultra-rugged housing that effectively allows you to use a pair of AA batteries to power AirTag instead of its internal battery to increase its operational lifespan tenfold. Head below for a closer look at the new Elevation Lab TimeCapsule AirTag 10-year battery case.
Elevation Lab TimeCapsule AirTag 10-year Battery Case
Firstly, let’s get some details on the build quality of the actual housing out of the way first. Elevation Lab has always delivered wonderfully-made, super durable, and waterproof housings as part of its TagVault AirTag mount lineup – they are in fact my favorite options you can buy. Much of this is being carried over to the new TimeCapsule.
It is made of an “ultra-strong fiber reinforced composite construction” with a screw-down lid of sorts to keep your AirTag and newfound battery power safely sealed away and protected. The brand is once again delivering a 100% waterproof housing her once again.
Okay, now let’s talk tech. According to Elevation Lab, the AirTag’s OEM battery – the Energizer CR2032 – lasts for roughly 12 months of constant use. But using its new patented TimeCapsule case, you can effectively replace that permanently with pair of much power powerful AA batteries.
The brand says you simply remove the AirTag’s battery and metal door, place the tracker on the custom contact housing within the TimeCapsule, drop in a pair of AA batteries, and then screw the lid of the TimeCapsule back into place with the included 4mm hex wrench.
Elevation Lab recommends using Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries for the longest life span. It says, with this setup, the TimeCapsule effectively expands the battery life of an AirTag to 10 years.
If you are someone who relies on AirTags to keep tabs on expensive or personally valuable gear – vehicles, trailers, motorcycles, luggage, camera bags, backpacks, snowmobiles, tool boxes, and so on, and find yourself having to replace the AirTag battery, something like the patented Elevation Lab TimeCapsule might actually be of use.
It sells for $19.99 Prime shipped at Amazon for one, or $29.99 Prime shipped for a pair of them. The AirTag and the batteries you’ll need are not included.
Apple is rumored to be on the verge of releasing a next-generation AirTag, but chances are the one you already have will outlast the new model with the new Elevation Lab TimeCapsule anyway.
