The Tapo lineup from TP-Link has really turned some heads here at gadgetnewsonline with an expanding selection of smart home accessories that won’t break the bank. This rings more true than ever with the new release TP-Link Tapo Matter Smart In-Wall Outlet. This functions as a standard wall outlet, but ratchets things up by being not only smart, but outfitted with Matter support as well. This means it will work with all the major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home. Continue reading to find out more.
TP-Link’s new Tapo Matter In-Wall Outlet now available
At first glance, TP-Link seems to really have knocked it out of the park here. Competing solutions that work with Apple Home have existed for quite some time, but often sell for nearly $100. This Matter-equipped model works with all the big names and clocks in with a very respectable, $30 list price.
Perhaps what is even more notable here is that this new smart in-wall outlet also wields energy monitoring. Many smart plugs that attach to an existing outlet offer this functionality and it can come in handy when trying to get an idea of which devices are making a large impact on your monthly energy bill.
Unlike some of the affordable, lesser-known brands out there that sell smart outlets like this, TP-Link offers what I consider to be a clean design that will blend in nicely with most homes. While installation may seem a bit daunting to anyone new to this sort of thing, I can tell you first hand after switching all of my light switches, it’s not very difficult at all, just be sure to turn off applicable circuit breakers before attempting to swap things out.
We’ve saved the best for last. Despite the $30 list price already being a solid offer, over at Amazon you can currently find this unit on sale for just $20. Yes, it’s more complicated to set up than a smart plug, but this way you won’t have anything protruding from your wall outlet. And we certainly need to mention that buying two Matter-enabled smart plugs would cost roughly the same amount as well, and even then, they may not support energy monitoring.
