8BitDo Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard with Super Buttons
The new Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard, as the name implies, is a full-sized keyboard that comes with 108 keys. It essentially adds a numpad to the TKL Retro model we already have on the market. Unlike the TKL unit, though, the new Retro 108 board only comes in two styles i.e. Fami and NES Editions. The original 8BitDo Retro keyboard, on the other hand, has NES, Fami, C64, and IBM-M editions, all of which are currently discounted on Amazon with prices starting from $89.99 shipped.
Both Fami and NES editions of the new 108 Mechanical Keyboard come bundled with a set of Dual Super Buttons, which can be mapped to pretty much anything you want for quick access. This new unit also comes with two knobs at the top left corner which you can use to adjust the volume and switch between different connectivity modes. It is compatible with Windows and Android, and you can connect it to your system via USB-C, Bluetooth, or a 2.4GHz dongle.
As for the specifications of the keyboard, the Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard comes with a hot-swappable PCB that’s fitted with Kailh Box White V2 linear switches out of the box. You get a set of Dye-sub PBT keycaps with MDA profile on top, and the color scheme depends on the model you pick. 8BitDo has implemented a top mount style for this board with an aluminum switch plate, so you can expect the typing experience to be on the slightly stiffer side compared to, say, a board with gasket mounting. The original Retro TKL model also uses a top-mount, so you’ll know what to expect if you’re coming from that board.
This keyboard also has support for 8BitDo’s Ultimate software, and you can use it map keys and assign macros. Other highlights of the new 8BitDo 108 Retro model include magnetic foldable feet at the bottom, a classic power status LED at the top-right corner, and more.
The new 8BitDo Retro 108 Mechanical Keyboard is now up for pre-order on Amazon, and you can snag one right now for $119.99 shipped. It starts shipping on December 12, so you’ll have it on your desk before the holidays.
