Amazon’s Blink smart home brand is one we have featured around here for quite some time, delivering a breadth of relatively affordable smart camera systems and video doorbells for Alexa users. After just getting a chance to go hands-on with its latest release, the Blink Mini 2 indoor and/or outdoor solution, today the brand is expanding its offerings on the software side of things. Blink Moments is a new “video viewing experience that automatically combines clips captured across Blink cameras into a streamlined video,” and it will be rolling out globally in the “coming weeks.”
Blink Moments – Auto multi-angle smart cam footage editor
The brand says the average Blink custom has an average of three cameras throughout a single household, and the new Blink Moments feature is looking to capture and organize footage from all of them like never before.
Be it family moments, security events, packages getting delivered, or hilarious things your dog does when you’re not around, Blink Moments is designed to string together the footage from these events, no matter which camera(s) they were captured on, into a single, chronological viewing experience.
Blink says “manually scrolling through individual clips can be time-consuming,” but Moments solves this by automatically combining clips from various Blink cameras into one condensed story. It will turn all of the clips from a single event into a single comprehensive story of sorts, allowing customers to watch the entire event unfold from various angles and perspectives without having to manually sift through the footage themselves.
Blink Moments will seamless integrate with each new Blink camera device you add to your setup, according to the brand, and it works “with all current and prior generations of Blink’s battery-powered and plug-in devices.”
This all sounds pretty cool to me, but if you were thinking, “well ya me too, but you must have to pay for it,” you’re right.
Blink Moments is only available via the Blink Plus Plan Subscription that runs $10 a month or $100 per year. A standard Blink Basic plan, that does not include Blink Moments, goes for $3 per month or $30 yearly. Blink’s plans are somewhat affordable compared to some, but another monthly fee is another monthly fee nonetheless. Having said that, these smart cameras seem infinitely more valuable with the plans to me – in this case it also includes “additional features such as person detection, live view recording, up to 60 days of video cloud storage, and motion detection video recording.”
Either way, the new Blink Moments is an interesting and likely quite handy feature, it’s just one you’re going to have pay extra for, effectively adding $100 to the price of its affordable cameras on a yearly basis.
