Lexar debuts new 2,000MB/s ARMOR 700 Portable SSD for iPad, iPhone 15, consoles, more with a $45 launch deal

We have seen a few new releases in the portable SSD space this year, including SanDisk’s highest-capacity external desktop model  and PNY’s  rugged 2,000MB/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 RP60, but today we are turning our attention to the latest from Lexar. Today, the brand is debuting its new Rugged ARMOR 700 Portable SSD with top-notch USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 speeds and a design made to take a beating. Best of all, we are also now tracking a solid launch deal on the 2TB model at $45 off the MSRP. Head below for a closer look and more details.

Lexar debuts new 2000MB/s ARMOR 700 Portable SSD at $45 off

Lexar says the new Rugged ARMOR 700 is a portable SSD specifically built for speed. And while it isn’t going to win any awards for it (as far as I can tell) – it is, at least on paper, the same speed as the rest of the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 models we have tracked, landing with up to 2,000MB/s max read/write action.

The brand says it is “perfect for professional photographers, videographers, content creators, and gamers,”  and especially those carting their portable SSD around, be it for travel, out in the woods, or on-location shoots. It features a dust- and water-resistant IP66 rating with a rugged build that can apparently handle drops up to 3 meters (or nearly 10 feet).

Alongside a “clever design” Lexar isn’t giving many details on that is said to help keep temperatures low even at top speeds, the new Rugged ARMOR 700 is designed to work with PC, Mac, tablets, iPad, Android, iPhone 15 Series, Xbox X|S, PS4, and PS5 right out of the box.

Features at a glance:

  • Blazing-fast USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 performance of 2000MB/s max read/write speeds for accelerated data transfers
  • Rated IP66 to protect against both water and dust
  • Rugged design is built to withstand up to 3-meter drops and falls
  • Stays cool even at top speeds, so performance is never sacrificed
  • Includes Lexar DataShield, a 256-bit AES encryption advanced security solution
  • Compatible with PC, Mac, Android, gaming consoles, iPhone 15 series, and more
  •  Includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables

It carries a $254.99 MSRP for the 2TB model and a $149.99 MSRP on the 1TB – a 4TB variant is scheduled to launch in “Q3 2024.”

However, as promised, early launch deals are now live on the 2TB variant at $209.99 shipped via B&H and Adorama
