Anticipation for the new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 game has been ramping up all year, culminating in a record-breaking launch last Friday. After the reveal of the limited edition Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 console, matching PS5 console covers, and DualSense controller, what many expected to be the biggest PlayStation release of the year has certainly delivered. And after early sales number were shared this morning, Insomiac, Sony, and Marvel Games clearly have a serious hit on their hands. Head below for more details.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 officially the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever
Sony took to its official PlayStation X (Twitter) account this morning to thank virtual web-crawlers everywhere for a record-breaking launch weekend.
Sony says Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the “fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in PlayStation history.” The game sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours and will likely continue to through this week.
We will have to wait for more numbers from Sony in the coming days and weeks, but it is certainly on track to outpace the original Insomniac Spider-Man release back in 2018 that made its way into 3.3 million consoles in its first three days.
It will also presumably take down the previous fastest-selling record holder, God of War Raganarok, which counted 5.1 million copies sold in the first week when it released last year.
Great news, Spidey fans — Marvel’s #SpiderMan2PS5 has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. Thanks for making this a high-flying launch!
Folks were already stoked for the new web-slinging experience just after the seeing the early gameplay footage, if not before that, but with mostly glowing reviews surfacing now, the game is likely to continue its upwards sales trend for at least another week, if not much longer than that.
Be sure to scope out the official Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 oversized hardcover collector’s books as well as Official Breakfast of Champions x Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 collector’s boxes if you haven’t yet.
