Samson brings its new $100 Satellite USB/iOS Broadcast Microphone to CES 2019

Straight from CES 2019 in Las Vegas, audio gear manufacturer Samson is announcing its new Satellite USB/iOS Broadcast Microphone. We’ve seen our fair share of content creator gear at this year’s trade show but can Samson’s new Mac and iOS mic standout from the pack? Head below for all the details.

Samson Satellite USB/iOS Broadcast Microphone:

As the name implies, the new Samson Satellite USB/iOS Broadcast Microphone is great for both Mac and mobile iOS setups. The included USB and Lightning cables will have you recording in minutes no matter what device you’re using.

Samson claims the new Satellite is more than capable of providing “broadcast-quality audio” via its pair of “premium” 16mm condenser capsules. Like just about all USB mics, your audio to digital conversion takes place internally at up to 24-bit-96kHz resolutions.

The company has also taken into consideration the wide array of setups mics like this are generally used for. There are 3 different pickup patterns (the area with which the mic will pickup incoming audio most effectively) including cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional options. This is great for accommodating both individual performers and something like a group chat, for example.

Other features include an internal shock mount to minimize table noise and other unwanted sound caused by handling the mic itself. You’ll be able to monitor and manage incoming signals with “zero-latency” using the 1/8-inch headphone output and soft touch-mute switch as well.

Build Quality:

As for the build quality, you’re looking at an aluminum body with a heavy-gauge steel mesh grille and interesting foldable design. Samson refers to this feature as a patented fold-back leg design that allows engineers/producers to have more options in terms of mic placement while also making the whole thing a little easier to lug around from location to location.

Now if you’re looking for the highest possible quality microphone out there, this new sub $100 Samson probably isn’t for you. Having said that, these affordable USB microphones tend to get the job done just fine for basic podcasting and voice-over work. They are usually also more affordable than the XLR counterparts, but Blue Microphones did just unveil the $100 Ember option at CES 2019 that looks quite promising. Pricing and Availability:

The new Samson Satellite USB/iOS Broadcast Microphone is releasing in May 2019 at $99.99. Head over to our CES 2019 Guide for all of this year’s best product announcements.
