Samsung Serif and Frame TVs set to get QLED displays at CES 2019

Back in 2015 Samsung first unveiled its Serif TVs, which at the time seemed like a radical departure from what had become the standard design of the last decade. In the years since, Samsung has tweaked this design in several ways. After adding 4K two years ago, we’re now getting our first glimpse of what the TV manufacturer plans to do with these models for CES 2019. The Samsung Serif and Frame lines will be refreshed with new QLED panels in Las Vegas next month. Head below for more info.

QLED comes to Samsung Serif and Frame TVs

While Samsung’s Serif and Frame TVs caused some eye rolls initially, both lines have found a place in the ever-competitive market as refreshing alternatives to the usual black plastic bezels seen elsewhere. Today’s news that Samsung will be adding its QLED technology to both models does not communicate an overall redesign at this time. However, don’t put it past Samsung to slim each down even further for the next generation.

After Samsung first integrated 4K resolutions back in 2016, the brand has been largely silent on any upgrades for either lineup. Adding QLED, according to the provided press release, will bring darker blacks and deeper contrast to the mix. Samsung’s Quantum Dot system delivers more saturated colors than the competition but arguably still lags behind the traditional OLED display from LG.

Samsung Frame TVs get expanded art collection

Aside from today’s QLED upgrade, Samsung Frame TVs will also be getting access to an expanding library of art for offline viewing. One of the big selling points of Samsung Frame TVs is their ability to display various works of art when not being used to view traditional content.

Samsung will offer over 1,000 different pieces of artwork for its Frame TVs following CES next month. The new QLED displays will deliver “improved picture quality” while also helping to maintain a healthier display over many years.

For the first time ever, Samsung will be making its Frame TVs available for purchase at traditional consumer electronic retailers in 2019. Previously these models were generally only available at boutiques and the like, making them harder to come by for the average shopper.

Final retail pricing for Samsung’s 2019 lineup of TVs is not yet available. You can expect more details to be released over the next few weeks in the lead-up to CES 2019. We’ll have full coverage of Samsung’s announcement along with any other notable details from Las Vegas next month.
