LG is expected to be an aggressive player at CES in Las Vegas next month. And while there should be plenty of new TVs, smart home gear, and more coming down the line, we’re getting our first glimpse at a new gaming-focused monitor today from LG. There’s never been a better time to upgrade your setup with a new monitor, as the market is flooded with both low-cost and high-performance options. The new LG 32QK500-W 32-inch FreeSync display arrives this morning with a respectable $350 price tag and sleek, Apple-friendly design. Head below for more.
LG 32QK500-W hits with affordable price tag
LG has been cranking out displays at near-breakneck speeds over the last few years it seems. Its lineup currently has everything from affordable 1080p options to the high-end UltraWide monitors we’ve been craving as of late. The new LG 32QK500-W hits the week before Christmas right in the middle of the brand’s lineup. Its $350 price tag is still affordable for most without sacrificing some must-have features for gamers and the like.
Any consumer looking for a fresh monitor setup is going to have weigh whether performance or resolution as the most important feature. It’s easy to reach for 4K (or better) resolutions, but you’ll often end up losing out on specs in other areas, most notably refresh rates. Today’s LG release tops out at 2,560 x 1,440 resolution but you’ll be able to enjoy up to 75Hz refresh rates along with an 8ms response time.
While this monitor disappointingly lacks Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, there are still two HDMI ports on the back along with both mini and regular DisplayPorts. Those looking for a USB hub of any kind are going to be left out in the dark here, as well. Simply put, this 32-inch monitor is a mid-range gamer display first and foremost. Any extras are going to require a willingness to pay extra.
FreeSync delivers improved gaming performance
LG’s lineup of gaming monitors frequently features Radeon FreeSync technology. If you’re not familiar, when used in tandem with various GPUs, this technology removes laggy gameplay and choppy frame rates for a smoother experience. While it’s not a must-have, it does pair nicely with many of the latest games out there. Today’s LG release does take advantage of this technology but the 75Hz refresh rate is middle of the pack when compared to other options out there.
You can purchase the new LG 32QK500-W 32-inch FreeSync display today at retailers like Amazon for $350. Although currently backordered, it is expected to be in-stock sooner rather than later. Be sure to keep it locked to gadgetnewsonline over the next month as all of the hottest releases from CES begin to roll out.
