We have already detailed our expectations and the best ways to prepare for Nintendo and Xbox deals this year, but now it’s time for PlayStation Black Friday 2018. Likely only a couple weeks away from official announcements from Sony, head below for everything you need to know about the best PlayStation 4 Pro, PS VR and game deals of the year.
When is PlayStation Black Friday?
PlayStation Black Friday deals will start to kick off as early as November 17th, if last year is any indication. Its digital PSN game deals started on November 17th for PS Plus members before opening up to everyone on November 21st.
The major hardware offerings began to go live as early as November 19th at Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy and many others.
When will the PlayStation Black Friday ad be released?
There will be no traditional ad for Sony’s PlayStation deals this holiday season. Last year the Vice President of PlayStation Marketing dropped a huge Black Friday blog post on November 13th, the same day we got a look at the official Microsoft offerings. It included notable deals on consoles, PSVR, digital games and more.
PlayStation Free Shipping
All of the best PlayStation Black Friday hardware deals will appear at just about every major national retailer (and then some). Your best bet here is to hit up our Black Friday Guides for details on how to maximize your shopping dollars this year. Here’s a full breakdown on how to lock down free shipping (and other perks) from the best gaming retailers and more.
Will there be PlayStation Doorbusters?
No traditional doorbusters here but don’t be surprised to see PlayStation hardware advertised as such from more than a few of the biggest electronics dealers.
PlayStation Plus
As we mentioned above, PlayStation Plus memberships will net you early access to the digital Black Friday sale on PSN if it ends up like last year. That’s five days early to be exact, but the real benefit will be the extra discount. Much like the way Microsoft runs its digital games sales over the holidays, that PS Plus membership will bring an extra 40% off on some of the biggest games out there.
There were no official PlayStation Plus price drops for Black Friday but we did see them go down to $40 at Amazon and GameStop on November 19th.
What will be on sale for PlayStation Black Friday?
The PlayStation Black Friday 2017 launch was centered around an official $100 off PS4 1TB Slim models and PS VR hardware models. We are expecting much of the same this year but it is easy to see the big retailers go even deeper in 2018 on the VR stuff. While it didn’t specifically advertise deals on PlayStation 4 Pro hardware until Cyber Monday rolled around, just about all major gaming retailers including Best Buy and GameStop had it up to $50 off. Amazon actually matched that price and threw in a free game.
Deals on PlayStation hardware have been nearly non-existent this year, likely due to its overwhelming lead in sales over Microsoft this generation. But this will likely mean the price drops will remain around the same as last year, despite our hopes for an official $100 off on PS4 Pro. Having said that, Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop and our favorite eBay sellers are surely going to get feisty on this one for Black Friday. Expect at least $50 off on PS4 Pro as early as November 19th and likely even better bundle deals come first thing Thanksgiving morning.
DualShock 4 controllers ended up down at around $39 at most retailers and we are expecting much of the same this year. Don’t be surprised to see them hit $35 at Newegg and Target, as both retailers slightly edged our official drops elsewhere in 2017.
While the usual PSN sales are more typically for adding to your back catalogue at a nice discount, PlayStation Black Friday digital deals are quite notable. Last year we saw it match the current lowest prices ever on major titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and more. It all started on November 17th last year for PS Plus members and then on November 21st for the rest of us.
