Update: Sony has now unveiled the official games list for PlayStation Classic. Head below for mow and pre-order at Amazon.

In a surprise move, this morning Sony is sharing details on its new PlayStation Classic console. This retro-remake includes 20 games. It will arrive on the 25th anniversary of the console’s initial release. Following the success of Nintendo’s NES Classic, it’s no surprise that Sony is looking to recreate that magic.

The new PlayStation Classic arrives with old favorites like Final Fantasy VIIJumping FlashRidge Racer Type 4Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. Pre-orders are available today. Head below for more details.

Sony’s PlayStation Classic will arrive on December 3rd, just in time for the holidays. Pre-order listings at GameStop reveal a $99.99 price tag. That’s around a 20% markup from Nintendo’s retro consoles that have proven to be wildly-popular.

The mini PlayStation is 45% smaller than the original. Much like what we saw with NES and SNES Classic, modern technology has allowed for a footprint reduction. Sony will include two wired controllers along with a microUSB power supply and HDMI cable. There’s no word if the controllers with be full-size remakes, or paired down slightly from the original.

We do not have a full list of games at the time of publishing. But classics like Final Fantasy and Tekken are sure to make collectors swoon. We also know that Jumping Flash and Wild Arms will be included as well. The lack of details here makes us wonder if Sony is still securing licensing for select titles.

Update: here is the official list of games…

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Grand Theft Auto
  • Intelligent Qube

The obvious concern come December 3rd is inventory. We know that Nintendo suffered through significant supply constraints with its first NES Classic. Our best hope is that Sony has learned from those mistakes as demand is sure to be through the roof.

If you’re interested, and we know you are, pre-orders are now available over at Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop. You can expect Sony to begin shipping its PlayStation Classic come December 3rd.

Introducing PlayStation Classic, with 20 Pre-Loaded Games

Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes for the first time.

Today, we are excited to announce that we are bringing back the original PlayStation experience in a new miniaturized version – PlayStation Classic! The console will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VIIJumping FlashRidge Racer Type 4Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.

The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and it emulates the original’s look and feel by featuring similar controllers and packaging. Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all. All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format.

Available for pre-order at select retailers across the US and CAN, each unit will also come with an HDMI cable to connect to their TV, a USB cable, and two controllers for local multiplayer within compatible titles. PlayStation Classic will be available for $99.99 USD (MSRP) / $129.99 CAN (MSRP) on December 3, 2018 – a historic date for all of us at PlayStation.
