The beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout is just around the corner. This is one of the biggest updates to Call of Duty in recent memory and brings an entirely new game style that we’ve yet to see from Treyarch and Activision in games past.

Blackout introduces a Fortnite-style gameplay with a battle royale mode never before seen in prior Call of Duty games. This personally excites me as I’ve never been a fan of previous battle royale games, but Blackout looks like a completely different beast. Here’s how to make sure you can try out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta before the game’s official release.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta is one of the most anticipated gaming releases this year, right up there with Battlefield V and many Switch titles.

Blackout brings a completely new experience to Call of Duty, and it looks amazing. Player Unknowns: Battlegrounds (better known as PUBG) really introduced us to this battle royale gameplay. Fortnite made it more popular, and now everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon.

Call of Duty is aiming to take advantage of this gaming phenomenon with Blackout but in their own special way. If you watch the trailer for Blackout that was released today, you’ll see a new type of battle royale that mixes some of PUBG with Fortnite, and a lot of regular Call of Duty thrown in.

My favorite part of the reveal trailer released today was the vehicles and what can be done with them. You see multiple types of vehicles in this trailer, from boats to helicopters and Jeeps.

You’ll have plenty of weapons to choose from, and there are even massive shields you can build and get behind in order to protect yourself while fighting.

From what we saw, there’s no real building mechanic in here like Fortnite has, and that’s 100% OK with me as that would take away from the classic Call of Duty experience.

To access the Blackout beta, you’ll need to pre-order Black Ops 4 on your desired system. PlayStation will gain access on September 10th with Xbox starting on the 14th. PC players will be able to enjoy Blackout beta on the 14th for pre-orders, and the 15th you’ll be able to enjoy Blackout on PC even if you’ve not pre-ordered. The beta will close for all systems September 17th.

You can visit your favorite retailers like Amazon or Best Buy to pre-order, or drop by the PlayStation, Microsoft Store, or Battle.net to pick up digital copies.
