If you enjoy all types of cycling, then German-based company Convert, may just have the bike of your dreams. The company has been working on its FF1 model for quite some time with the goal of making an all-in-one unit that can be quickly transformed into the type of bicycle a rider needs at any given time. Convert touts that the FF1 can be changed into a mountain, road, or commuter bike in less than 5 minutes with just one tool that comes included with your purchase.
Owning multiple bikes can require a lot of upkeep and also can take up quite a bit of space. The Convert FF1 aims to change all of that by offering kits that include the saddle, wheels, fork, and handlebars, necessary to change their bicycle into whatever the rider needs.
By taking this approach, Convert allows avid cyclists to use less space and worry only about maintenance on a single bike. Most people will appreciate that with the FF1, they do not need to invest in multiple frames since that is the part that remains the same no matter which style of bike the user has set up.
The FF1 offers a minimalistic, two-tone design using primarily gray for the frame and black for the rest of the components. The only exception to this appears to be the stylish brown saddle included in the commuter bike kit.
The frame is made of 7005 aluminum alloy and includes a Shimano XT 8000 drivetrain and Formula Cura rear hydraulic disc brake. When purchasing the bicycle, buyers first order the frame, then tack on suitable kit(s) afterwards. Customers are given four kit options including Road, Trekking, Mountain, and Mountain Pro.
As you would expect, weights vary between 2-5 pounds depending on the chosen configuration. Unsurprisingly, the road kit is the lightest of the bunch, clocking in at 23-pounds. The Trekking, Mountain and Mountain Pro kits weigh in at 25-, 28-, and 26-pounds, respectively.
Pricing for the FF1 frame is set at €1,200, which converts to a little over $1,360. Kit pricing varies depending on which option you select, but they range from €900 to €1,500 converting to around $1,000 to $1,700.
If you are a fan of electric bikes, you have the option of ordering an electric-assist system. If you are curious about pricing on this feature, you will need to fill out the form on the Convert FF1 order page to request a quote.
Convert anticipates that the first batch of orders will be delivered in February or March 2019, and according to its site, the company is offering early bookers a discount on what the list price will end up being.
