After PlayStation boss, John Kodera, recently announced that PS4 was nearing the end of its lifecycle we also got news on how valuable Sony’s PlayStation Plus membership has been for the company. After jumping more than 10 million users year-over-year to land at 80 million active subscribers, Sony wants to celebrate its gaming community with some serious price drops, a new limited edition PlayStation 4 console and much more.
While PS4 might have already entered its end of days at this point, it is safe to say that PS5 is at least 3 years out, so the freshly announced PS4 Pro, PS Plus and first party game price drops are certainly exciting. In fact, we are looking at Black Friday worthy deals here, especially if retailers try to get an edge over each other with bonus bundles, gift card offers and more.
Sony is bringing back Days of Play for 2018. It is essentially a fancy name for a widespread promotion Sony is running on just about everything it has to offer. Starting on June 8th we will see many of Sony’s first party titles go on sale, along with a $50 price drop on PlayStation 4 Pro and the introduction of the brand new Days of Play Limited Edition PS4 console:
As usual with these Sony limited edition runs, we are looking at entirely aesthetic changes over the base model PS4 slim. Covered in Days of Play blue, the new console sports a 1TB hard drive, the matching DualShock 4 and the Days of Play gold design along the top. As you can see, the controller is also covered in blue with gold PlayStation logo print across the touch pad.
It will come available on June 8th for a limited time. By the sounds of it multiple retailers will be carrying it at $299.99. That’s the same price the standard PS4 slim fetches these days.
Now on to the official price drops. Outside of the standard PS4, just about all things Sony hardware is getting discounted from June 8th to the 18th. That includes $50 off PlayStation 4 Pro to bring your total down to $349.99 shipped. DualShock 4 wireless controllers in all colors will be down to $39.99 and PlayStation VR bundles will be starting from $200.
As we mentioned above, hopefully retailers get a little scrappy with the hardware and start to undercut each other with gift cards and the like. Either way, stay locked to gadgetnewsonline for all the best offers.
Beyond that, many of Sony first party titles will see nice price drops along with PS Plus. However, you’ll want to keep a close eye on our daily game roundups as many of the official price drops on the games (and PS Plus) really aren’t all that notable and we will most likely have less expensive options for you come June 8th.
But just in case you wanted to know what was coming, here is Sony’s list:
