As parents, we always want to know where our kids are at any given moment and to know that they are safe. Omate, a kids smartwatch maker has joined forces with a toy manufacturer to produce a new smartwatch with location tracking to help parents gain peace of mind. It’s called the Omate x Nanoblock and it has a ton of security features as well as a few enjoyable ones for your kids too.
This new smartwatch for protecting kids ages 5-10 offers security features like an emergency alert and it allows you to communicate with two-way voice chat. Plus, there are location-based services that let you find the watch using an app and Omate promises that it is easy set up right out of the box.
For kids’ enjoyment, there’s a pedometer, stopwatch and even an alarm they can set. However, the standout feature here for kids is the band that they will be able to attach LEGO-like blocks to in a variety of styles and colors. Your child will even be able to take selfies with the camera that’s located at the front of the watch and then browse through photos they’ve taken with the photo gallery app that’s included.
The watch features 3-day battery life and comes with a magnetic charger and USB data transfer cable. It comes in your child’s choice of two colors, black or white.
Just like most smartwatches, there is a subscription charge for the location services provided. Omate assures users that none of the location data is shared and cannot easily be compromised as the watch uses end-to-end encryption over a virtual private network (VPN). Omate promises that parents will be able to keep track of and stay in touch with their kids in real-time. The built-in Tata Communications SIM card works via a 3G subscription plan. We’ll learn more about this new watch at Mobile World Congress.
Until then, if this looks like something you’ll need for your family, Omate will be taking pre-orders starting in April, with the watches scheduled to ship in June.
