Drones are one of the biggest gadgets on the market these days. No one knows this better than KFC apparently, as the fast-food chain has unveiled its very own smartphone-enabled drone. So if today’s DJI Mavic Air announcement wasn’t enough to sate your desire for drone news, then you’re in luck, as The Colonel himself has your back.
Kentucky Fried Chicken is well-known for its wacky promotional ideas, like last year’s delightfully terrifying Internet Escape Pod. Now the fast-food chain is back with another weird gadget, this one aimed at enabling smartphone users.
The concept behind KFC’s latest marketing stunt is pretty simple. Customers can pick up an order of KFC Smoky Grilled Wings and when finished, instead of throwing out the packaging, can convert it into their very own drone. Dubbed the Kentucky Flying Object, the drone is assembled from parts of the wings box with help of online instructions. KFO owners can then pair their smartphones to the Bluetooth-connected drone to start flying.
Unfortunately for drone enthusiasts, the KFO will only be available as a promotional item in India this coming Thursday and Friday. So those hoping to walk out of their neighborhood KFC with a brand new RC toy are sadly going to have to look elsewhere.
