Retro gaming seems to be making a comeback. We’ve seen several retro gaming systems launch again the past few months, with the SNES Classic, C64 Mini, and most recently the Super Nt [Classic]. Today, however, we’re writing about a different type of retro gaming machine: a mini Centipede arcade working replica. RepliCade, a product of New Wave Toys, is a recent product on Kickstarter that aims to bring you back all of the joy that the original Centipede brought.

The RepliCade is only 12-inches tall. You read that right, 12-inches. That’s as tall as a Barbie or Ken doll, for reference. New Wave Toys packs quite a bit into this 12-inch bundle, though. The tiny arcade cabinet is 100% functional and playable, and the manufacturer claims that the trackball is extremely smooth for easy playing. RepliCade is also battery powered and charges via microUSB, so you can even game on the go. The fully functional 3.5-inch LCD is a 4:3 aspect ratio to make you feel even more like you’re back in your childhood playing your favorite arcade game. Though this RepliCade only plays Centipede, New Wave Toys is planning on making many more replica units for your favorite arcade experience.

Packed into the tiny RepliCade is a full LED backlit marquee, real wood cabinet, a working trackball and buttons, working coin return credit buttons, and more. New Wave Toys was able to accurately produce a true 1/6th scale with officially licensed Atari graphics, and it looks beautiful.

I really like the style of the RepliCade, and it would be a great desk accessory to kill a little time on breaks or just get rid of some stress by gaming out for a few minutes. The coolest thing for me is the design and the fact that it’s a fully functional gaming system. With the functioning coin door, buttons, trackball, and super tiny screen, it should make for a really enjoyable experience all around. I also can’t wait to see what other gaming systems that New Wave Toys brings to the market after the Centipede cabinet fully launches.

With an MSRP of $160, these mini arcade systems won’t completely break the bank, but if you get in on the Kickstarter early you can snag one for as little as $90. At the time of writing, the RepliCade has raised almost $19,000 of their $50,000 goal. One thing to remember with crowdfunding is that you’re essentially pledging your cash before they have the units fully ready to ship.
