With the release of the new iPad Pro back in June, Apple unveiled fresh accessories like the iPad Pro Leather Sleeve and the Apple Pencil Case. Both of these accessories focused on storing the Apple Pencil, something that had been somewhat overlooked with the first generation iPad Pro.
As expected, third parties have stepped up to the plate to offer alternative options. One such accessory maker, DODOcase, provides several iPad Pro-centric accessories that we’ve covered in previous posts. In addition, the San Fransisco-based company also makes a sleeve solely dedicated to the Apple Pencil.
In this brief video walkthrough, we take a hands-on look at DODOcase’s Leather Apple Pencil Sleeve. Is this $34.95 accessory worth considering?
Specifications
- Soft and supple premium leather
- Gold foil-stamped monogram
- Accent stitching
- Also works as a bookmark
- Can accommodate other styluses and pens
- Handcrafted in San Francisco, CA
The Leather Apple Pencil Sleeve ships inside of a small DODOcase-branded canvas sack to protect the contents inside. The 7.5-inch x 1.5-inch sleeve is slightly taller than the Apple Pencil, making it an ideal size for the iPad Pro peripheral.
For a limited time, DODOcase is offering a free monogram service, allowing buyers to include an up-to-three-letter gold foil-stamped monogram at the top of the sleeve.

The first thing that you’ll notice about the DODOcase Leather Apple Pencil Sleeve is how ridiculously soft and supple the leather is. This isn’t the same durable form-fitting leather that you’ll find with Apple’s official rendition of the sleeve, as DODOcase has focused heavily on the softness of its leather.
Inserting the Apple Pencil inside the sleeve is a simple affair, and there’s just enough room for it to fit inside easily without much effort, while being tight enough to remain secure. The accent stitching on the side of the sleeve contrasts nicely with the brown leather, and the monogram is still visible while the Apple Pencil is inserted inside of the sleeve.
If there’s one concern I have, it’s with the overall durability of the sleeve, especially with the bottom area where the tip of the Apple Pencil rests. Unlike Apple’s official case, which features a reinforced area to protect both the Apple Pencil’s tip and the leather itself, there is no such area on DODOcase’s offering. Thus, one will have to be careful not to insert the Pencil too far inside where it might puncture the leather over time.
With everything said, DODOcase’s Leather Apple Pencil Sleeve is one of the best looking Apple Pencil holders that I’ve seen. The quality of the leather is a step above what Apple is offering, though longterm durability may be eventually called into question.
The Leather Apple Pencil Sleeve makes it extremely easy to insert and remove the Apple Pencil, and it can work as a standalone option for other types of styli and pens as well. DODOcase says that it’s also fully capable of functioning as a traditional bookmark.
