onHaving a reliable way to charge your devices when on-the-go has become a necessity for many. While the market is filled with various power packs all sporting different specs and features, RAVPower has entered with a versatile 15000mAh Solar Charger. With a rugged design, impressive battery capacity and the ability to recharge itself in sunlight, you’ll want to head below to see how the RAVPower Charger stacks up.
In order to really put RAVPower’s solar charger to the test, I relied on it as my main charging option for my phone while soaking up some sun on vacation. While my phone usage was nowhere near a typical day’s, the solar charger had no issues keeping up and powering my devices. In fact, I got around 4 days of nearly round-the-clock use before needing to plug the charger into a AC adapter.
Within the power pack is a 15000mAh battery alongside two 2.1 amp USB ports and a 2 amp microUSB charging input. In practice this wasn’t the fastest mobile power bank I’ve used, but it offered relatively quick charging speeds. Being a solar charger, it also sports a 5.5V/220mAh solar panel for charging on-the-go. The recharge rate wasn’t enough to fully replenish it over the course of a day, but offered a noticeable boost to the 15000mAh battery.
The battery and solar charger are then encased within the device’s rugged form factor. The charger’s fairly standard plastic casing is then complemented by an added orange rubber coating to further increase the durable design. While the dual-color outer shell leads to a pretty neat look, it also offers IPX4 water and dust proofing, a feature which proved useful while lounging on the beach.
Rounding out the design, you’ll find an LED light on the rear side of there mobile charging pack which seemed like it would be useful. But in practice, this feature leaves a lot to be desired as the iPhone 7’s built-in flashlight proved brighter.
Overall, the RAVPower Solar Charger was the perfect companion for my vacation. Its 15000mAh battery proved to be just right for powering my gear and its rugged exterior was perfect for taking on the beach. The charger is certainly on the larger side compared to other power packs, but I never really felt its size was too cumbersome. It isn’t the most ideal solution if you’re in need of a charger to carry around in your pocket, but it’s lightweight enough for storing in a bag when hiking or even on your daily commute.
If you find yourself in the market for a powerful mobile charger and would find the included solar panels helpful, then RAVPower’s $33 option may just be the perfect addition to your charging arsenal.
