Who wouldn’t like to save more money on their electric bill each month? Well now there’s a new way to monitor your home’s electricity usage in real-time. The device is called Glow and it’s currently being funded on Indiegogo. It promises to help you reduce energy costs and it can even send notifications to alert you of spikes in your usage.
Glow is a one of a kind ambient home energy tracker that doesn’t require an expert to install. It uses “magneto-resistive sensing technology” to wirelessly measure your home’s electricity usage. It then sends that information to a device to let you see a representation of your home’s energy use.
It’s been estimated that most households have 40% of electricity consumed go to waste. Over time that can really add up to a hefty sum. Glow can help you see the energy use in your home as it happens so you can cut the waste and save money. You can also use the Glow app to tell the system how much you want to spend each month and it will help you to stay on set budgets.

Lower your electric bills and reduce your home’s environmental impact with real-time energy use feedback, spending goals, and alerts.
Glow is able to track your home’s energy usage by using two devices. First, you’ll need to attach a wireless sensor to the outside of your utility meter box and then you plug in the in-home unit. The sensor gets the information by wirelessly measuring electricity as it flows into your home. Then, the in-home unit sends that information to the Glow app on your phone. You can also use the Glow app to get alerts if there’s abnormal power usage at your home. So if you left the air conditioner running or the stove on you will be able to take action right away.
Glow is expected to work with most modern digital meters installed on U.S. homes. If you want to see whether Glow is compatible with your home here is a full list of compatible meter installations.
The smart device has 34 days left to go in its campaign to reach its $75,000 goal. You can get your own Glow system for a pledge of $149 from its Super Early Bird Special. That’s 50% off the expected retail price and you can get it in charcoal or linen. If all goes as planned backers will begin to receive their Glows in June of next year.
