There’s no greater feeling of helplessness when caring for a sick child. This is especially true for when you’re trying to bring down a fever. Having to keep checking your child’s temperature and then knowing what you are suppose to do to try to get the fever down. Degreeº, currently on Kickstarter, fits around your child’s ear and monitors temperature continuously for as long as you need it to. It’s “the worlds first wearable in-ear thermometer.” Just put it on once and let it go to work. You get real-time stats and you can even get alarms if the temperature is too high or rising too fast.
Once your child is wearing degree° you can see every change of the body temperature on your iOS or Android device. The creators of degreeº believe parents need to “know when their child needs them the most.” With degreeº, you’ll be able to make the right decisions based on the changes in temperature and track the effects of your treatment to see if you need to adjust it.
Degree° would be very useful especially during the night (as any parent who has had sick children will tell you). Not having to get up and also wake up your child to take the temperature would be a phenomenal breakthrough right there. Just glance once at your smartphone and then you immediately know his/her exact temperature.
Greta and Johannes Kreuzer, parents of three and the founders of degree° like most inventors created out of a need. Their 3-year old daughter was having temperature spikes so severe that it caused her to have a seizure. They later learned that the reason for her convulsion was not the absolute height of her temperature but the fast rise of it.
They learned that febrile convulsions are quite frequent for infants and toddlers and not just an incident in their family. So they put everything on finding a solution for this problem. They believe parents should be enabled to see the whole temperature curve of their child during fever in order to be able to manage it easier and without the stress and worry that already comes with it. That is why they created degree°.
With 28 days left to go in its campaign, degreeº still has a ways to go to reach its goal of $54,920. A pledge of $75 will get you one degree off the early bird special and the company hopes to ship in December 2017.
