The battle between Marvel and Capcom heroes has been raging for years, and the latest entry in the series now has an official release date, pre-order bonus and a brand new trailer outlining the details of the game’s Cinematic Story Mode…
While the story stuff is certainly interesting, and adds some value to the experience for most players, there is additional Arcade, Mission and Training Modes along with the usual online matchups. But let’s just get to the good stuff.
Capcom has already confirmed that we will be seeing Marvel’s Captain America, Captain Marvel and Iron Man as well as with Mega Man X, Morrigan, and Ryu. Alongside today’s trailer, Capcom released some details on new characters coming to the 2-on-2 fighter as well. You can expect to see Chris Redfield from the Resident Evil series, Chun-Li from Street Fighter, Strider and even Rocket Racoon from Guardians of the Galaxy. Other Marvel fighters joining the roster include Hawkeye, the Hulk and Thor. There are certainly a few characters we would love to see in the game that haven’t made appearance thus far including Spider-Man and Street Fighter’s Akuma.
As for the story itself, the heroes will be joining forces in some way or other to take down the evil Ultron Sigma. Yes, that’s a villain mash-up made up of the “most menacing mechanoids from the Marvel and Capcom universes.”
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 19th. It is currently up for pre-order on Amazon at $47.99 shipped for Prime members. There will be a few different bundles available including the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions (full details on those below). Six additional characters will be added via DLC packs that we know of at this time (the first of which being Sigma from the Mega Man series), and the Collector’s Edition will include a type of season pass known as the 2017 Character Pass.
The more cartoon-style graphics is interesting here, but it’s hard to not directly compare them to the fantastic and much more slick looking Injustice 2, which is set for release in just a few weeks time. The Street Fighter series really benefits from this kind of visual treatment in my opinion, and in the end all that really matters is how fun and strategic the fighting mechanics are. Nonetheless, we are certainly excited to jump back into the world of Marvel vs. Capcom this September.
