8Bitdo’s new wireless NES Classic Mini Receiver lets you play with PS4 controllers and more

If you were fortunate enough to get your hands on the new NES Classic this holiday season, it might have been a surprise when you opened the box to find a measly three-foot controller cable. It sure would be nice to be able to sit just a bit further away than that. Nyko was first on the scene with its Miniboss wireless controller for NES Classic, but now we’re getting a look at 8Bitdo’s latest solution. This $40 kit includes a receiver that will work with any Bluetooth controller and promises zero lag. Notable compatible gamepads include Wii U Pro, PS4 and the entire 8Bitdo lineup.

8Bitdo ships its NES30 Controller, a Retro Receiver and a USB controller in this bundle. Of course, a second kit will need to be purchased to enjoy wire-free two-player gaming. The ability to use modern day gaming pads has the potential to be very attractive for gamers. You can count on around 20 hours of use on a single charge of the NES30 but the trade-off of managing another rechargeable device pails in comparison to the freedom of not having any wires. The 8Bitdo NES 30 Classic Edition Set will be available from Amazon on December 16th for $39.99 shipped.

Free yourself from the NES Classic Edition’s short controller cable. The Retro Receiver is a Bluetooth receiver that you plug into your NES Classic Edition. It allows you to play your NES Classic Edition wirelessly. With the Retro Receiver, not only can you play your NES Classic Edition wirelessly with any 8Bitdo controller or arcade stick: but you can even use wireless next gen controllers, too. Compatible with next gen controllers: PS4, PS3, Wii Mote, and Wii U Pro.
